Night ride at OR Tambo circuit

This was my first night ride and thoroughly enjoyed it . A lot of rabbits about one ran in front of of me for about 50 m in my light . The drop off was scary as your light shines out straight and you drop into a black hole ???? . I wAnted to test myself on that track as it was the first one I started riding on a year ago , average back then was 18kph . Mty first lap in the light was 24.5kph ave and my lap in the dark was 20.5 .I rode with borrowedd light as i do not have one , although it was bright enough i think having a helmet mounted light as well as a handlebarr mount will be an advantage as you can then scan corners better or am i wrong .

Is it the circuit used for the emperors mtb race? Is it safe? Parts of it are very remote......

Was wondering about the same thing.

Its not the Emperors section through the tree plantation . Its the track in Roman Rd with the entrance at the little park in Impala Park . There is a sliding gate with lock on it for safety .

Ok cool I know exactly where you talking about. So can anyone go? Who unlocks the gate?

That is an awesome midweek leg burner!

I used to ride it when Lee from Sweat and Gears was the main man there (and original builder).

Off topic but when last did you chat to Lee or hear how he's doing? Shame he got screwed over with his shop.

I wished him happy birthday this year on social media and had a quick chat. He's good.

In my experience, no, you're not wrong at all. A handlebar mount is good to have but a helmet light looks where you look which around corners is a huge plus. Your eyes and front wheel are not always pointing the same way.
