Furbz Posted December 30, 2018 Share It seems in the space of a few weeks sunset drive in the cradle has had a squatter camp pop up out of nowhere. First I've seen of it. Not sure how or why it happened. But will not be riding that road again.I felt rather uncomfortable riding past there on my own today. MudLark Posted January 1, 2019 Share Which one is Sunset drive? AFAIK they are all D something (D followed by a number). Very concerning either way though. fabs
Chris_ Posted January 2, 2019 Share Heading north on Beyers, just before Valverde, theres a road on the right that heads down the hill. I think a lot of people use it to get through to Dainfern. I use it as a little there-and-back to add on a few km's. Sunset goes off on that road. Was going to probably ride it this weekend (weather permitting, again...), thanks for the heads up. Ro3lof Posted January 2, 2019 Share Saw this news article a few weeks ago. I think this is the squatters you are talking about https://roodepoortnorthsider.co.za/287191/just-squatters-moved-behind-cradlestone-mall/
David Marshall Posted January 2, 2019 Share Looks like it is there to stay. Bricked roads and all. I have ridden past a few times.

I think this is the squatters you are talking about https://roodepoortnorthsider.co.za/287191/just-squatters-moved-behind-cradlestone-mall/ that is definitely it. i hope we do not see a rise in incidents in the area because of this
Kranswurm Posted January 3, 2019 Share I think a lot of people who bought in the north wish it was the south
Chris_ Posted January 7, 2019 Share I rode past here this weekend. I think I timed it with some sort of gathering because there was a serious stream of people walking down the road. Most of whom to be honest I have no problem riding past - flash a smile or a wave and people generally give you enough space to pass still within the yellow line. The thing I did notice though, and this would be my biggest worry, is the rise in taxi's cruising up and down this road now. Skinnyone Posted January 7, 2019 Share My parents live across the way, and you can see the settlement from their place...the piece of land they were moved onto had been on the market for a while - along comes a bank with an offer and buys the land, next thing is the settlers are being moved onto the piece of land from the back of cradlestone as the bank who owns the piece of land behind cradlestone obviously wants to start developing it.... there is no infrastructure in terms of water, sewerage etc - so you can imagine what it is going to be like in a couple of months...
