BikeisLife Posted January 25, 2019 Share That bolt looks identical to the bolt used on XTR brakes. Your LBS should have a spare somewhere in their box of goodies.
Velouria Posted January 25, 2019 Share If you could somehow make a slot in it you could use a screwdriver to get it out? Otherwise a screw extractor should work.Have you not been following this thread:https://www.bikehub.co.za/index.php?/topic/102931-I-have-an-idea-for-a-new-thread... MrJacques Posted January 25, 2019 Share Have you not been following this thread:https://www.bikehub.co.za/index.php?/topic/102931-I-have-an-idea-for-a-new-thread... I'm now petrified of slicing off a limb or something! Maybe use something smaller, like a dremel, or a punch I know someone who lost an eye in a similar incident. I'm more scared of an angle grinder than a chainsaw. I nearly had an incident last year when I plugged in an angle grinder and it started up. Fortunately it was lying on a towel and chewed up the towel and not anything else. Edited January 25, 2019 by Jacquers Mojoman
Velouria Posted January 25, 2019 Share Get yourself this little gadget. Very handy, especially on those dreaded stripped cleat bolts. edit: can't get the link to post. It is called a Speed Out Bolt Extractor. Can get it from Verimark, Builderswarehouse, and I'm certain at Brights also. Seems like something any self-respecting DIY/bike owner should have! And today was payday! Wannabe
David Marshall Posted January 25, 2019 Share The SpeedOut works well but only for the bigger bolts - say 3mm up. The real deal is the American GraBit. Difficult to find - I got mine while on holiday in Saldanha at the local Farmers supply - but you should be able to get from specialist tool suppliers. Come as the GraBit Pro (bolts) and Micro GraBit (screws). The drill point is fully left handed and often it will loosen the screw before you even need to use the extractor end. If you ever have to work on abused shifters and forks you will appreciate. PhilipV and Wannabe

Cycling me can be a real tool when it comes to looking after stuff!
