Calling on Suspension Guru's

Hi Guys

My son weighs in at around 30Kg kitted...

He has a Giant Stance E - EBike fitted with a Rockshox Monarch R.  With his weight I am running 65Psi to get around the right sag (28%) however he is an aggressive rider who likes airtime so he blows through the travel

at that Psi.

When I up the Psi to around 75/80 it wants to buck him over the bars on every hit even with the rebound fully slow.

What are my best options?

Lighter weight oil?

Changing shims?

New shock as I know the Monarch R is not the greatest to begin with.

I would love a coil but not sure on his single pivot design and any coils available in 184x44??

Any advice much appreciated!

Cheers

Have you added tokens/bands to the shock air can yet? The lighter the rider the more you need. It will allow him to run the lower pressures to get the right sag and rebound control and prevent the harsh bottom out issues he's having.

Bills in the mail.

Thanks... Will the bands not just create the spike/ramp up further into the travel and still cause

the hard rebound????

It also has the standard no DebonAir can so not sure if bands work with a STD can?

I honestly don't know, but the lower pressure should help get the shock shock under control again in most situations. The ramp up at the end of the travel isnt usually associated with uncontrollably fast rebound AFAIK. This has to be the cheapest option to try too.

At 30kg, even on an ebike, there should still be enough rebound to deal with a landing. I'd suspect there's an issue with the rebound circuit.
