Important to get the right size... XXL

+1 for this comment. At your height most maufacturers' XL will be too small for you meaning you will have to run the seatpost very far out.

If you have a fair budget I'd give Dave Mercer from Mercer bikes a call and have him build you a custom steel frame. It'll last forever and fit you perfectly. Not cheap though...

+1 for a custom Dave Mercer, but then you better start a good build thread with lots of pictures or I'm going to report you to Admin!  :)

and set aside some time. Spoke to him short while ago and if I am correct it's about a 3 month waiting period but most definitely worth it. When I have the chance again to build a new bike it will be one of those.

If I had the money this would have been no.1 on my list when recently replacing my frame. A 3 month wait is long, but considering it would be tailor made and will likely last longer than any other bike you've had before I would definitely say it is worth the wait.

Where exactly are the frames breaking?

From your height being on the borders of L and XL what often happens is that people ride with their seatpost too far out which causes extra stress and causes toptube/downtube junction breaks.

One cracked the chainstay close to the pivot near the bottom bracket and the other was similar but on the drive side. My seat post sits at 5.5 out of ten on the markings so it would feel like I wasn’t pushing the limit there. Both frames were 5+ years old alloy and one was an XC frame so probably not too surprising but definitely want to get the strongest frame I can for my next bike.

Just running the general options through my head:

Bargain = Giant Reign or such trail / enduro frame(2nd hand)

Budget = Giant Reign or such trail / enduro frame (new)

Mid / upper range = The "boutiue" brands trail / enduro frame (new)

Top dollar = Custom build

Buying new is a good idea purely for the warranty.

Buying 2nd hand you have no warranty if you break it, but can save a pile if you find a lightly used one and you don't break it.

Still not super clear on what riding you do? Xc and marathon stuff or some distance with more focus on having fun on the trials? Or proper full on Enduro?

Aluminium 7000 series overbuilt dual sus (good for wheels) like mine. Banshee Prime. Two triangles linked by two stubby is links. Strong AF.

Thanks for the recommendation. I like the aggressive geometry. Did you find the Banshee in SA or internationally?

Santa cruz tallboy with a120 travel fork .Rocky mountain also make strong frames.I am also on Xl or xxl frames ,weigh 100kg and these frames last

My brother rides one of these and he is the same size as me. Do you ride the alloy or carbon frame?

I am exactly the same height and weight as you .I ride an xxl SC highball and rocky element .My previous bike was a 2012 SC xl tallboy .I would happily buy the newer models of each ,but probably go for the SC Blur rather than the SC tallboy .Santa Cruz frames keep their value and maintenance is minimal .Transition frames is also a brand i would look into
