Brakes: Old Shimano VS New Tektro

I ride a 2018 Trek Roscoe 7 and the brakes are not great. It has the std Tektro M285 brakes which are pretty entry level.

I have a set of 10 year old Shimano LX M585 brakes on my wifes bike that hardly gets used.

When I got the bike I considered swopping them around but thought that modern entry level is surely better that 10 year old mid range. Now I am not so sure. I am looking for opinions on if its worth the hassle of swopping them around.

Below are some pictures of each brake for reference:

They'll probably be extremely close in terms of power

I think proper pads and rotors (even a bigger one on the front) will yield the best result

But just the brakes side by side will probably be very similar

Already changed pads and running 203 rotor on the front and 180 on the rear.

In my experience, those Tektro's are balls. I run a 203/180 rotor combo and this is the first thing I changed on my bike.

Got a pair of decent second hand Shimano SLX brakes (M7000 I think). BEST upgrade I could have done to my bike (2019 ST StumpJumper)
