Today’s plan - some questions

Hi all

Got into the whole structured training thing using Zwift training plans. Helped me a lot to get ready for Transbaviaans After having a cervical fusion in May. TB makes me want to do 360one and I liked the structured training, but for 360one I feel a need a better plan that what Zwift has to offer.

Have decided to try Today’s Plan, now I will probably do 2-3 session a week on the trainer with power, and then 2 a week on my MTB with no power and only heart rate.

Does anyone know how well you can integrate outdoor rides with trainer rides in a structured program? I must say that when I ride outside i am not so big on following structure, I basically determine the intensity of my ride by the course I do, as I am lucky enough to live where there are plenty steep trails.

Also, how does one use power and heart rate for half of your rides and then only heart rate for the others? Obviously on the trainer I want to use power.

You can estimate training load (TSS) from heart rate quite well if you have a bit of history of power and HR rides. I only have power on my road bike so when I do MTB I am in the same situation as you. You can do longer threshold stuff with HR only quite easily. Do the shorter intervals with power on the trainer.

What David said.

I'll add that it integrates quite nicely. Depending on what bike computer you have there are HRTSS apps available to download to certain computers.

today's plan can shift the workouts to most computers too using their shifter app.

overall I find it to be a great platform for designing my training blocks. And it offers the workouts in both HR and power formats

Suppose it's a bit late now, but I had similar questions when looking for something to structure my TB training.

I also do not have power on the bike so relied on HR data over the weekend rides. I went with Training Peaks and bought a basic plan. TP integrates into Zwift, so all my TP daily rides were available on the day in Zwift automatically. On weekends I simply uploaded the HR data to TP and linked it to the plan (simple drag and drop exercise) - this generated HrTSS scores which (as far as I could tell) were very close to what I would have perceived my TSS to be. You start to get an idea of more or less what range the HrTSS will be based on the length of your ride and how hard you push yourself, so before leaving the house I'd generally know what I needed to do (for longer rides only). The shorted power interval type stuff (which was generally scheduled for during the week) I tried to stick to the trainer only.

I don't know much about Today's Plan, but it sounds similar to TP. Subscribing to both Zwift and TP is expensive, but I can honestly say that I would probably not be ready for the TB if I'd tried to wing it.

Today's Plan has two options just analytics or analytics +flexible plans. TP doesn't do flexible plans. You can build a plan around any period in your season e.g. Build phase, transition, maintenance etc.

you can start a plan no Later than within 6 weeks of your target event. It also uploads workouts to zwift so they're there in Today's Plan folder.

the analytics is really good and intuitive so that sold it and I ditched training peaks.

So some feedback on Today’s Plan, more around the service than the content.

I have had two little issues and the response from them has been fantastic. I got assisted almost immediately both times, the service has been fantastic.

Decided to do an annual subscription to both plans and analytics, and I would definitely recommend them. It is very seldom I get service this good.

I am working to achieve analytics feature parity with those two (nothing they have that I like thats not in Intervals.icu) + extra stuff only in Intervals.icu obviously. Plans are for TrainerRoad or a real coach to sort out but I am going to do plan import / manual editing with future TSS etc..

Glad you like it. The annual subscription is the way to go. I've been with them since 2016. Its the best investment I've made outside of my idt
