Negative Spring volume spacer

Question for the suspension gurus on the forum. I see that the Fox DPX2 has a part number for a volume spacer for the negative air spring. I am happy with what a volume spacer does in a positive air chamber. It makes the air volume smaller so the spring ramps up at the end of the stroke (more progressive). I’m not so sure what effect adding a spacer will have to the negative chamber. It makes the air chamber smaller, so would it make the beginning stroke less sensitive as their is less pushing the piston into its’ stroke?
