Powerbeam Pro and FTP

Last winter I cycled mostly indoors with the powerbeam pro. I use Zwift and connect all with BLE and Iphone. My FTP is around 250.

I stopped using it in Aug/Sept and wanted to start setting it up again last weekend. After cleaning it all and doing a few feee rides, I calibrated with Rouvey. The trainer isn’t supported for calibration in Zwift.

The next ride Zwift upped my FTP to 450. Insane. My cadence is also around 65 rather then 90, not sure if it is a moving average or how it works cause it stayed basically the same during an hour ride.

Calibrated again but still have crazy power numbers. I’ve carefully cleaned the trainer especially the silver wheel with the black sticker but no change.

Any ideas on what else I can try?

As far as I know the apps are up to date as well. It’s quite frustrating cause group rides must now be in A rather than D and the numbers just don’t make sense. Only realistic stats is the heart rate ! :-(

Sounds like a Zwift problem, as I don’t Zwift I cant help much

Is your ftp normal when you don’t zwift?

Big issue on the Powerbeam, if the tension onto the wheel is not done right you will get inacurrate readings. Also make sure tyre pressure is fine.

Yeah as Veebee mentioned the tension on the tyre makes a difference.

Also check your rider profile in Zwift, sometimes the weight is incorrect etc. Its most likely a calibration issue though.

I never had issues with a Powerbeam and Zwift but that was a few years back.

Thanks guys. Will double check everything again but am prettty sure pressure off the max of the tyre, I’ve done the 2 clicks etc.

I think I should subscribe to Rouvey for a month just to see if I get different results than Zwift

I'm not sure how the new powerbeams work, but on mine its easy

Turn the tension knob until the silver wheel touches the tyre and then keep turning for 2 loud clicks and that's it

I did try it with zwift last winter but only for 2 weeks, never had any power issues
