Any recommended XC(road) Helmet?

I'm not sure asking for recommendation is a good thing because, like shoes we're all different.

 

What I would suggest is measure the circumference of your head and then apply that measurement to the brands like offer what you're looking for. Then take the smallest helmet that accomodates your head.

 

for Example:

My head circumference measurs 55.2cm. So I look for a helmet that caters for 53/54cm to 56cm.

I find that Giro, MeT, Catlike and Limar size Small fits the most comfortably. I can size up to a medium in all those brands but then I need to dial the rear adjuster in quite far. This results in a slightly wobbly fit which defeats the point and expense of MIPS. For MIPS to work the helmet shell has to be a good fit.

 

Then there is the general shape of your head and the helmet shell. The above mentioned brands fit a more ellipse shaped head while helmets like Rudy Project, FTech, Bell,  cater for rounder shapes. The effect of fitting a round helmet onto an elliptical head is that it tends to sit on top and create pressure points.

 

So short of taking a mould of your head (People do strange things when they have too much time on their hands) suggest you start with the measurements, select those you're keen on and then once Lockdown is over go try some on.

I'm in the market too,

 

I'm leaning towards the Lazer Blade + MIPs. Reasonably priced and decent safety rating. It is within my budget. Plenty of options depending on how much cash you're willing to spend.

Did some more research. GREAT value for money. Check out the website that I postes about the safety tests if you havent seen it before. Cheers

I checked it out, thanks. I'm glad to see the Blade+ scores well, I ended up ordering it . Interesting to see that my other helmet, a Leatt DBX 3.0, doesn't score as highly  .

This is good advise. Sounds like my head size and shape is very similar to yours. I Have been to a lot of bike shops and fitted a crap load of lids. The only decent and comfortable fitting lid for me is size small from Giro. I Used a Ionos for a couple of years and currently using a Aeon. They are unfortunately not cheap but I don't mind paying the price for good comfort and safety.

What is your opinion on the Scott Centric Plus helmet? 

 

I bought one of these from Bike Addict towards the end of last year at a great price and have loved it - using it on both my road and MTB. Very comfortable, provides good protection and airflow, has MIPS so ticks that box for you as well. I can't comment on on the crash test as yet (touch wood), but its solid enough. So zero complaints from my end!

What is your opinion on the Scott Centric Plus helmet? 

 

 

The Scott centric is one of those that just doesn't work on my head. The Small is too small and the medium is too big although the adjustment caters for me on both sizes. The small oinches my temples and the medium just looks like a mushroom up there. too much overhang at the back too and it fouls my sunglasses arms.

 

This is not a criticism of the product, its just not designed for my head. Giro size medium is the same but the small is perfect. Where a medium helmet works is in winter when I wear a casquette under the helmet so I do keep a few mediums I buy on special just for winter when having a cap on head is essential and comfortable. The Scott would work for this application but its expensive to wear just three to four months of the year.
