Hey Hub Experts

My ride got rudely interrupted by a little twig which probably caused the Bends. I've checked the hanger - even did a swapped a new - that seems fine. But judging from the cage alignment (see upside down view, attached) it is probably the derailleur that is bent. In the zero-tension position I can't get the chain to set to the smallest cog :(

Given the little bit of available info, could this be fixed?

In completely unrelated topic: anyone interested in a mint-condition, better-than-new XT-derailleur?

Had a similar issue ....

LBS has a Parktool with which they can check and steaighten the hanger.

Way too expensive to buy the tool for home use.

PS ... the LBS did say beforehand that some hangers break when bent back .... still worth the try

DAG-2.2 Derailleur Hanger Alignment Gauge

EDIT ....Sorry, mis read the first post, and answered as if the hanger was bent.

I would say double check that hanger, its definitely not something you can see by eye. Though you did say you replaced with new?

If its not reaching  the smallest cog, then loosen the tension on your cable and adjust the limit screw on the derailleur (H - L) screw. B set screw should still be ok.

since you already fitted a new hanger.....it must be the actually mech arm. they bend too. I had a fall last year in a race and it bent the hanger and mech arm into the spokes. well since i still had 80km to go....i HULK'd it back in line by hand haha.

i was waiting for it to snap off in the process but it held up. went on my merry way.

if you are not too squeamish....and with a bit of hamfisted finesse...you should be able to get it back to where it wants to be....there is even a parktool video where they do it lol. (also includes a viewer discretion warning) lol

Yeah I replaced the hanger with a new one - made no difference at all. I loosened the limit screw beyond the limit where it has any influence on the the derailleur.

I expect it to be something like this. The second symptom (after a slipping chain) was the RATAtAtATA of the hanger hitting the spokes. I was too far from any car-accessible road to walk out of the park so I also resorted so field surgery which was to bend it back a bit (without bending other parts). Since the outlook would be either write-off at this stage I might as well try some more bending.
