I know nothing of rear suspension.

If I get a full suspension frame, how do I determine what shock it requires?

Is it the eye to eye that I am looking for?

Eye to eye and stroke are both important, as is the tune. Frame and shock are usually sold together for this reason.

If you find a frame without a shock, expect to get a fright when pricing the shock separately. Check the manufacturer's info on the frame to see what spec is needed, including mounting hardware.

And If you get a 2nd hand one off Bikehub, make sure you get an appropriate tune. Chat to someone like Droo beforehand as the tunes of most shocks are indicated on it, mostly. If not sure, send it passed Stoke suspension works for a service and tune.

The Tune is often an afterthought, as the fit takes priority at the time of buying but will make or brake the ride. ask me, I've got experience with this x 2 ;) Luckly I could sell the 1 shock off again without making a loss, and again got lucky by getting the tune I wanted/needed on a new shock. But I am still due for another visit to Stoke to get my Current rear-shock fine tuned.

It really can make the difference between a rear end that tracks well and turns rocks to marshmallows or one that resembles a FS but rides like a HT.
