Pity you don't have a sound/video clip of this ticking sound on a stationary bike stand because this is currently a guessing game.

The most obscure ticking I've had was from the headset cups, not just the headset, mainly under load, seated, standing or just freewheeling cruising.  It took 6months to solve. Removed cups from frame, greesed and then reinstalled and then it was gone.  Not before I bought a new fork thinking it was the fork however.

I had something similar, intermittent click/tick when pedalling and sometimes when coasting. Turned out the handlebar/stem bolts wanted to be torqued a bit more, probably had some minor movement with a slight shift of weight when pedalling..

Is it when you pedal?

My first instinct is it is a cable end brushing something (crank arm etc) when it rotates OR, very commonly, it is a pedal that needs servicing.

Pedals don't click in the shop or on the stand as they don't get tested under load.

But ja.... Neville Cragg at Bike Mob would be my recommendation if you want someone to triple check

And the winner is Jewbacca. Dodgy left Speedplay pedal. Swopped it out for another one and quiet bliss on this morning's ride. At least every component on the bike is also now correctly tightened and greased.

Thanks for all the input.

Could be sticky links in your chain. I had this issue mainly from using wax lube. Try cleaning your chain then moving each link individually to free them up, then use a non-wax lube and wipe off excess. Then try cycling again. My ticking disappeared when I stopped using squirt lube!

I also took my bike to 2 bike shops and paid thousands for irrelevant issues. Ticking would restart soon after getting it back from the bike shop. Figured it out myself at home after Googling. I have no issues now.
