Hi Everyone

Can you please tell me which bike is better between Silverback Stride SX 2021 vs Titan Drone Expert 2021? They are both going for +-R15 000. I want to do more casual riding with gravel adventures. Please let me know.

I would go for the titan

Has more modern geometry

Better brakes shimano brakes over the silverback tektro in my opinion atleast.

Titan has internal dropper ready cabling.

Silverback has rockshox versus manitou shock, not sure if vast difference between the two.

Also multi user warranty that can be transferred to if u sell adds.

Best is, go to shop that has both and sit on and ride it to feel.

And the one u think looks more appealing to you, buy it

Thanks a lot MajG. I also like the Titan, but I was not sure if the Silverback is better than the Titan or not.

I can't believe the pricing on the Silverback, I bought one when I started out riding and it was R13500 with a dropper post added on, the pricing has sky rocketed, for what it's worth, it was a really nice bike, and super fun to ride

The poor rand attributes to the price for sure.

Both these bikes have decent spec drivetrain

However the titan is revised geo, looks nicer and the multi warranty is a good add on.

I had silverback stride too as my very first bike, its a decent bike.

If was my money id buy the titan

Hi Chad

The prices are really changing fast. It might be the demand, there are many people that are cycling now in the country. To make things worse the Silverback Stride SX at some stores is R18 000. So one needs to really shop around and find the store with the lowest price.

Silverback has more of a long german legacy versus titan is the locally produced newish guys.

But if 6ou like the Titan, go to proper bike shop and have a test. If good, buy it.

But test drive both first

Unless the Titan site is wrong, the Drone has a 69° head angle (vs 67.5° on Stride), and slightly longer seattubes. Chainstays are shorter on the Drone. Both are internal dropper compatible.

Titan has a boost thru axle frame and Silverback has QR dropouts.?

Maybe I am nit picking but that's a big no no to me for the Silverback

Silverback is South African born, the guys left to Germany.

If think the Geometry on the Stride is a little nicer, more trail bike inspired, but if the TITAN has Thru axles that is a big plus, and for the kind of riding the OP said he wants to do it will be the better bike I think

Manitou VS RS

Try to get some Reviews on both these Forks

Fork is Important ! Long Term

I had a Manitou Markhor on my Merida for a couple of months.  Sold it and got a RS Reba.  I can't complain or say anything bad about the Manitou.  Good fork for the price, I only did XC riding with it.

At this stage, I would prefer the Manitou as I still have to fine tune the Reba.  I am struggling a bit with the Reba.  I just can't find the sweet spot, I think I need a volume spacer.

The Titan Drone has a 69deg head angle. They is steep, and I think a beginner to intermediate rider would benefit from having a slacker head angle.

However the Silverback has a suntour fork on all the interwebs sites I've seen, so if yiu can get one with a rockshox fork, I would grab that. The Manitou markhor is a better fork than the suntour.

On a hardtail a QR back wheel isn't a deal breaker. You won't feel a difference between it and a boost back wheel on gravel roads, but spares for boost wheels are more readily available nowadays.

The shimano mt201 and tektro brakes are both entry level. Both will stop you well. The shimano has better brake feel, but they will fade on very long hard downhill runs. I'm talking a full descent at pace down Helderberg trying to keep up with mates on enduro bikes. A gravel road descent probably won't replicate the same, as between corners the temperature will get chance to lower again, unless the rider is dragging the brakes.

For a rider who wants to do gravel roads and the odd adventures, both bikes will do it well. And I reckon choose the bike that you felt most comfortable on. Size is very important. A nice bike in the wrong size is going to hurt you.

Thanks Philip. This is really helpful.
