Security Camera Installation

I am hoping someone has experience with the installation of security cameras who can give advice on what is needed for a small security camera setup. 

 

We need to temporarily move our simulation pc's to a new room and we want to install two security cameras in the room since there are two doorways leading into the room. There is no WIFI in the room so that option is out. What will we need to purchase to be able to store the footage locally or remotely and have access to the feed and stored footage remotely since this room is not in the same building as our office. We typically log in with remote desktop to the pc's when we need to use the pc's so there is internet connectivity via ethernet cables in the room.

you just need to add a HDD to it to store on site.

I have a Hikvision 8 camera setup at home...I access it on my phone via an app when I am out and if you set up a static IP address then you would be able to access via your PCs over the network...I think you can also record direct to the cloud (never checked this out as I dont have great data reliability). 2 Years on and touch wood no issues...I think I took the Hikvison as all was warrantied for 3 years (although we all know a warranty and a warranty claim are two different things!)

I was hoping for a simpler setup similar to a wifi camera, this will only be temporary. But it will still be cheaper to buy the dvr kits than to get a wifi camera with a 3g/4g router.

you have ethernet?

 

use a IP camera and a cheapo wifi router,

 

 

or an old phone, with a webcam app

Thanks for the info, I will definitely use the phone as ip cam idea for the printer at home. 

We are not allowed to add hardware such as wifi routers to the network, company rules, so the router option is out.

Just add two IP cameras and a software DVR, setup firewall rules for remote access - which I wouldnt recommend - and it should be easy enough.

Personally I would never expose the frontend to the internet but if you have a site-to-site VPN that should sort out security concerns.
