Interested to know as well' date=' how does faith affect cycling??[/quote']

the short end of it was that knowing that god has a plan for him was the guiding factor in his life on and off the bike. it removes all anxiety from him. the interesting thing, for me, was that he wouldn't question nor waver in his belief should things not go his way.

best to read it in his words if you can. think the mag may still be on the shelves at bigger branches of cna.

and i'm not at all religious?

Faith is believing in something even if you can't see it or understand it.

If you can truly leave everything in God's hands, you never stop enjoying life. The hard part is letting go. Going to go searching for that article now. Cool stuff roller.

It's true what Slowbee says, one must respect those sport stars that do not want to take part in races, events on Sundays. I had a lot of respect for Kosie because of that, but it did mean that he lost out on a lot of prize money for not racing on Sundays. smiley19.gif

HR' date=' this is also a very touchy subject for me, I hate having to race on Sunday's. I wish all races could have been on Saturdays, if I go do a race on a Sunday it means I cannot go to church since we only have morning services. I am also very unpopular with the family about it as well. I'll see if that specific issue is still in the CNA, and read all about it. Thanks[/quote']

If I knew I was going to race on Sundays, I used to attend the Saturday evening mass and tried to convince myself this was okay.

.........but it really used to upset my wife and I, and recently (probably 5/6 months ago) I took the decision not to race on Sundays anymore.

I have the issue as I subscribe, but havent even opened it yet, will definately have a "lookisee" tonight.

I wasnt aware of his religeous beliefs, but I have to say, I find it very refreshing indeed.

Kosie, had lots of other problems and by been steadfast in his faith God opened some other doors and he was well able to get over the hurdles.

widget, one of the points the article makes as well is that he doesn't push his beliefs in the peloton. very few of his friends/teamamates knew he was so devoted.

there's also an funnily written sidebar about cipo's piety.

Kosie was a real good guy. I think a lot of it was due to his faith. Especially cause domestic "pro" racing in the 90's was ruthless and cut=throat took a lot to get through it with your conscience and morals intact...

I agree with lots that said here - I stopped for the most part riding on a Sunday morng - instead after church. We have a Sunday evening service & that is what I'm looking at going to instead - shud I not make the morning service.

I also believe U must have some faith to even be on the bike in Gauteng - let alone cummuting to work every day !!!

Hi people,  Just to mention the SPRINGBOK HAMMER THROWER Chris Harmse who refuse  to throw on a Sunday  in the Olimpics. Cant remember when but it happened a few times. He don`t  do sport on Sunday`s.  Clap

That time  he have  been the  world no 1. getting the Gold.  That is commitment to what you believe in.

DT, just to put a spoke in your works....

look at the ministers etc, they ALL work on sundayLOL But take Monday off. So in my opinion anyone can quite easily compete on a sunday as long as another day is set aside as their sabbath.
