he's living a quiet life in a tiny little town.

they searched for him all over. spoke to a sister and a brother, and found his house, but only managed to speak to him briefly on the phone. he agreed to an interview, but then never answered again. wasn't at all impressed with the media hounding him. guess he still feels hard done by.

best snippet was the barmaid procycling interviewed. she said you could tell that he was always on the prowl for women.

agreed, apart from say boonen (and a couple of the aussie trackies) there is a lack of characters in the sport these days!

If you want a real debate about religion and God go out to Exclusive Books and get a book by Richard Dawkins called "The God Delusion". There's another one also by Peter Spong called the "Sins of Scripture". Dawkins is a zoologist/scientist who is a serial atheist and makes a compelling argument for atheism, and Spong is a religious minister who criticises the Bible for all the ills it has foisted on the world, but then balances his argument by identifying the positive that has come out of religion.

yang, that's precisely the thing i didn't want to start. we've had toom uch of that here already. this thread was intended to tip off christian-leaning hubbers to an article about a like-minded rider in the pro peloton, not provoke a debate about whether there is a god or not. most hubbers know where i stand on that issue.

OK Holy Roller- gimme time- this will be my 28th post- will get to know the hub over the next few months. Its the first time I have seen a religious topic since I found the hub. In the meantime there are other new people on the hub who will get to know the situation from my post and your response, so its cool.

chill, bud, am not all cross. there was a spate of threads being deleted for that very reason. even an old-timer like big h can't get the gist of the thread either?but we've learnt to ignore him (as should all you new hubbers!Big%20smile)

and here's a belated welcome to the hubHug

Since we're on the topic of things not to raise I have learnt a few things, like you do not raise the debate about Shimano vs Campagnolo.

(PS- this is a real pity. I wasn't on the hub during those turbulent debates. I guess that I will have to go into the hub's archives. Because its something I am interested in since I have 5 bikes, only one with Campag, and guess which is my favourite....

But please understand, it is not my intention to hijack the thread, and to open this debate. Please ignore this post.)

Yep faith can be twisted into all sorts of shapes and meaning.

Back to HR's original post' date=' I can understand that someone who really believes something (has faith) can be postively affected by that belief and whatever means he/she uses to "worship" the faith.

I always say a little prayer before races asking God to help n protect me and even those I race against...

Also when I get in aeroplanes...

SwissVan, God cannot protect you or anybody else for that matter as it is contrary to a fundamental principle of the bible and that is free choice.  So when you get on a plane and pray for safety it is totally useless and basically a waste of breath. Take 911 as an example, how many people must have prayed for their safety? Plenty boet, every passenger must have been praying the hardest they have ever prayed in their life! And what happened, well, suffice to say the hijackers did not sit down again and continue reading their Koran! That is free choice. How many Christians have died in road accidents, been robbed, murdered or raped? Millions I would imagine. Any why? Is it because God is deaf? No, it is because God is powerless to interfere. If he prevented the drunk driver in the other car from drinking, or the robber from robbing, or the murderer from murdering or the rapist from raping then he has denied them free choice, reducing man to a mindless puppet.  So don?t bother praying for safety, God is not gonna do anything about it, rather pray the following ?So God, if **** happens I will see you in a short while?<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

To cut a long story short Wink

..it makes me feel better at the time...

it's probably akin to the power of positive thought. it's like when roadies venture out on an mtb for the first time. often the nervousness and tension about the possiblility of falling ruins the ride. think something bad is gonna happen and it probably will?

That's not true. Been thinking bad thoughts re Robert Mugabe and still nothing.

As a Christian it is sometimes better to be on your bike and be thinking of God than sitting in church thinking of you bike.  <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
