Hi all,

I have watched a number of YT videos on rear shocks and sizing and it seems 50/50 as to can you go a different size on the stroke length or not.

Currently my bike has an X-Fusion 190x45mm and if I search Evo bikes it seems this is an odd size as you see 190 but 190x51mm seems to be the norm.

Is my understanding correct by having a longer stroke length will result in more wheel / suspension travel which could lead to parts on the frame touching etc.?

If this is a stupid / confusing question then just ignore.

If it's for a Cannondale si then yes it can accommodate the a 190x51

Go for a Fox DPS, very decent performance at its price and super reliable and parts are readily available here and not offshore.

What bike? Some frames make allowance for extra stroke so they can use the same frame between different models, but they're in a minority.

190 x 51 can be spaced down to a 190 x 45, but you'll need a service centre to do it.

The bike is the Specialized Stumpjumper Alloy 2021 model.

You will be able to replace the rear shock with a 190x51 spaced down to 45mm travel.

You will have to specify the stroke as 45mm though so that the change can be made before its shipped to you.

A DPS Performance or RS SidLuxe would be best, the latter probably being the best performing unit on the market.

DPS feels more plush off the top, Sidluxe feels more controlled through the midstroke and seems to bob less too.

Service your choice regularly and they will serve you well

Thanks,

I assume speccing it to be spaced down can and will be done if bought from Evo Bikes?

Evo will very likely have to order it from the distributor. Suggest you give them a call to ensure your expectations are aligned with their desire to sell you the part
