Okes forget that stuff is getting on that caliper every ride.

 

If you ride in the wet, damp roads etc the discs spin a whole heap of gunk into the caliper.

 

It also heats up and cools down a lot, which compounds any issues.

 

Calipers are filthy things. The oxidation at the coast is pretty bad too, especially if alu is married to steel, so if you have alu calipers and steel bolts and fittings. 

 

Galvanic corrosion is real.

 

I would bet my bottom dollar that it would be less pronounced (probably still an issue) of you used alu bolts and fittings.

 

Luckily my 105 stuff is still ok. I don't have any issues after nearly a year of riding in Cape Town and living on the coast.
