When I started doing events that were electronically timed they used Winning Time, then somewhere along the line it became Racetec. The result was that just about my entire race history is on Racetec.

Now I see Finish Time is timing the 947, does that mean my results are now going to be fragmented all over the place ?

There are a few timing vensors out there right now. Did a MTB race last year in Feb and required a new timing board. I also know that doing the USN MTB series they also use a different timing board. Racetec is only doing Trailseeker series. I do not know about road events as I normally would only do two races a year and they are all Ractec timing.

I have the following:

Winningtime

Racetec (used once when I left my WT chip at home)

Championchip

ROAG

SAS

Then SS Timing is used in some races, but it’s returnable after the event. There have been others, including Finish Time for some running events.

The results being fragmented all over is not a concern for me.

I only look at the strava data anyway...

my racetec data goes back way way further than my strava data.

Back when I started, the only way to get your ride onto the computer was to manually enter the data into a spreadsheet. Having Winning Time tell me my race duration was awesome.

I have strava records that predate the existence of strava. Nothing like uploading nokia sportstracker files.

When I got my first Polar S510 I would download the data after every ride (remember having to put a microphone by your polar whilst it made wierd sounds), then I moved to Mac and there was no compatible application. I only started to record electronically again in 2010 when i discovered Cyclemeter.

Couple of different timing vendors on this side of the mountain, or at least there were pre-lock-down.

And then some fun-rides realized that cost implications vs real world benefits for a FUN ride .... Some switched to Strava.  Podium is done by eyeballing the winners, the rest really makes no difference in any case.  Many dont even load their Strava to the event page.

When the planets allign again, and more events take place ... going to be interesting to see what the future hold.

Obviously hard core racing may well stay with a timing system ... but who knows in this ever changing electronic evolution ....  fun rides certainly dont need to blow their budget for this ...
