Hi guys. Looking at getting a sports/smart watch. I mainly mountain bike and do some running. All I need is notifications while out biking and music controls. Does the watch show speed, distance and heart rate while riding. Is this a good option or is the there better options?

Thanks

I sometimes use my Garmin watch to record rides.

Perfect for record keeping purposes.

But looking at data on a watch screen while on a trail .... uhm no ....

Most Garmin watches allows you to customise the screen to show the data you want to see.  It also has multiple screen options, so you could set up one screen for your preferred fields, then other screens if you want to check other data

I’ve been using wrist watches (Polar and Garmin Forerunners) since the mid-2000s. They all did what was needed (at the time), and I never had the need for a bike specific unit, even though I have one.

if speed/pace, duration, distance and heart rate is all you need, then it will be fine. Are there better units out there? Of course. As soon as you buy one, a better one will be launched.

Father inlaw just got one, he's loving it (compared to his galaxy watch).

Basic activity screens compared to my F6xPro buts he's loving the app connectivity and ease of use (including Strava).

Also you can connect speed and cadence sensors so great for biking

Thanks guys for the input. I had the FR 70 before it packed up. Have Garmin bike mount with HRM strap before so I could see speed/distance and heart rate. Not worried really about speed anymore. Takealot has the 55 R2999 at the moment.

Thanks and happy new year

I just got one a week ago. I'm loving my FR 55. It has all the main sport functions I need, for cycling, swimming, and of course running.
It does have more detailed metrics for running, but still does everything I need for cycling.

Yeah, it controls the music on my phone perfectly (Android, Spotify), if you need that. And notifications (but I turned mine off - I hate getting work notifications while out riding). I think for 3 grand, you can't get better.
