Here is the state of the inside of the clutch, also completely rusted on the inside

Ja, I'm afraid, rather get some replacements.  Maybe even used from damaged/broken one if you cant find stock.

Remove that cage and give the coil spring on the other side a good once over with cleaning material. I'll be at my LBS tomorrow and check if they have a new clutch kit for the XT - I'm sure they do. Will let you know

Doddy does a good tutorial on how to do it all yourself:

Thanks 🤙

O-ring on my wife 12-speed also worked just fine. Spring (outside the clutch assembly for those who have not delved there) is slightly rusted, but clutch assembly still looks brand new (she rides daily near the sea).

So far mine is 100%, no water ingress and no rust.  Running on 2 bikes (XTR & XT) for about a year now .... :)

4 off at home, no rust issues ... TOUCH WOOD !!  Certainly no issues at the last round of services.

rush off to check ....

Here you go Ruben - DM me and I'll send you the LBS details. They're in Germiston, Johannesburg

Replace these parts, give the spring a good clean and you'll be as good as new. And use the correct lube too - any decent light bicycle hub grease... not the junk for car wheel bearings

Ruben have a look at the "short leg" and the "long leg" of the spring around the clutch.

SHORT LEG = screw side

LONG LEG = cam side

PS - I got the correct grease from Evobikes.  For home use it may last two, maybe three, generations ....

This is how the P axle looks after I managed to pull the clutch off. You guys reckon a new clutch kit will do the trick or not?

On closer inspection, that doesnt look like rust but rather the previous owner (or you?) used the wrong grease on the clutch system. That brown gunk looks to be coagulated grease on the shaft itself. Im sure with some elbow work you can get it clean again and re-use that P axle and clutch. But dont scrape it off with a sharp blade or with sand paper. That will damage the surface the clutch rides on. Try remove the axle, then soak it in some strong cleaning agents like petrol, acetone, thinners etc to release that old grease

Of course, if you have 360 ronts then just buy new and be done with it

Definitely wasn't me as I know that no grease should be on that axle and to only use a lithium based high temperature grease on the outside of the clutch

I removed everything and turns out the clutch is faulty. I put a other clutch on the axle and worked fine. Thanks for the help!
