Beginner hardtail frame size (168cm)

Im also 163cm and i definitely would not scratch small of your list. How old is your son? I get the idea of wanting to get a bike that will last him for a while if he’s still growing but don’t buy something that’s too big. Manoevering a smaller bike will be much easier and will allow him to nail down his skills much better.

 

Bike fits are so personal that I’m not really a fan of the height size guide thing because everyone is built differently. There’s so many different factors to take into account. It also depends on you and you want to fit on the bike. Do you like a more upright position etc etc. For me personally, I always pick the smallest frame if im between sizes. At 163cm, i just feel with a smaller frame I can manoevre the bike much much better and the fact that its lighter also is just an added bonus.

No i must say im currently on an XL (about 21”) that fits pretty good but then its considered to be one of the longest bikes in it’s category so that helps the fit I guess (680mm top tube lol!) My gravel bike is a 64cm seat tube, with a 630mm toptube and a 90mm stem…)
