Does anyone know if it is possible to replace the drums of a roller.

I don't know what make the roller is. The drum diameter is 111mm.

The drums have warped with age so it's a bit like riding cobbles Dead

I should probably just get  an entirely new roller-trainer but If I can replace the drums I have for less I'd rather do that. Hey, it might happen!

Supavan - I've got a spare of Tacx rollers you can have for R650 - NEW.

Probably cheaper than doing the repair thing.

You can have them in the mean time, we can sort out payment another time.

you could try industrial PVC pipe. You get a size with the outside dia = 110mm. Heavy pressure rating like a class 16 should give enough wall thickness for strength. The ends would have to be machined to accept your current end covers though. If you dcide to chuck these rollers please pm me i would like to try fix them

Cyclenut, let me speak to the missus tonight. I'll let you know.

Madmarc, the rollers are not mine to give away. I have been borrowing them for the past um.... 3 years now Embarrassed

I'll have to cinsult with the owner. These are vintage rollers. I believe they may hev come off the Ark LOL

Rhodent, rollers are a bit of a different kettle of fish. You can't control resistance like on an normal indoor trainer. You basically have to gear up and down the bike. So you aren't going to do any climbing drills.

BUTT

It does help with your pedal action and you can do interval training. It's also not that difficult to get used to. People get put off by the "balancing" thing. really you are only riding the bike as you normally do, you're just not going anywhere and you would be advised not to swerve Big%20smile

It took me 25 minutes to get the hang of it. Practise in a doorway or next to a wall so you have something to stabalise yourself against in the beginning.

in terms of resistance, how comparable is it to to the road ( flat road i guess!)? i'm actually doin a research project on the effects of q-rings on performance, so that mite be an option for testing....
