Hi everyone, Ive always been a avid runner/jogger and Im new in the cycling world and bought a Silverback Stride SX in Nov 2022. Im now keen on getting a Wahoor Kickr Core or the V6 model to do some indoor training in the afternoon/evenings to enhance my fitness because going out into the mids of traffic has caused some close calls here and there.

My question is; will this MTB of mine work/fit on the the Core/V6? I don't know the exact specifics of my drivetrain and also dont know what I need on the Kickr. Any guidance on this will of assistance. The more detail the better because like I said my knowledge in the cycling world is not much.

Thanks.

It will work with either, you can use an MTB with the trainer but depending on your gearing you may run out of gears because its an MTB and most of the routes are road. Get a matching cassette for the trainer so you won't need to fiddle with gears when using the trainer or bike.

My advise:

Get a cheap 26er and leave it on the trainer. There's sooooo much that you need to change / fiddle with when a. you want to ride on the trainer or b. ride the bike outdoors. I have been riding on the trainer since 2015 & I am now at a point where I don't even bother to go cycling outside 😁

I also agree with the sentiment of a dedicated trainer bike.

I had an older mtb which became the trainer bike. But I would likely buy the cheapest road bike I could find my size. Put the same saddle as my mtb and set up the body position as much as possible.

Then you can run the cheapest chain, cassette and chainrings you can find. My old MTB now has a 1x10, with a 40 tooth gravel chainring and then 10 Speed XT from the original 2x10 with a road 10 speed cassette. because the trainer environment is relatively sterile. If you keep the chain clean and lubed you get a lot of km out of really cheap components. It probably drops around 5k a year on my running costs and I do more km. My trainer bike has no brakes on it at all. The front tyre is so perished it is cracked all over, but the tube holds air.

An alternative is to even just buy a frame, chuck a crank, cheap front wheel, handlebars and a shifter.

The reality is, that it means there is always a bike I can jump on and go. No faffing. Just carry a bottle of water and my phone to the pain cave and good to go.

Agreed on cheap dedicated road bike. The sweat gets everywhere and plays havoc with the bike unless you clean it very often. Bar tape is particularly disgusting and even though I have one of those protector doodats that stretches from the headtube to the seat post and I have wrapped the rear triangle in a towel I still get a fair amount of salty residue on the drivetrain.

Mamil sweat .... It'll eat its way through anything.

have you opened up your headset and checked those bearings? I put maxima waterproof grease on there and then put duct tape around the top of the headset and topcap to protect it further. Maintaining and cleaning a training bike has opened my eyes. I will never touch a public gym bike again knowing how badly that mankness can ingress...

That's a good idea. I haven't cos it will never ride on the road again. Frame is cracked. I only need to maintain drivetrain and shifters.
