Mountain Bike

I am in the market for a hard tail mountain bike and I have been following a few threads of other people looking for something similar.

I quite like the  STEVENS SMC FLIGHT ES and the  Mongoose Meteore Ultimate Carbon.

Can anyone recommend some cycle shops in the JHB area that are selling the above mentioned brands?

Some hubbers indicated that Stevens are no longer sold in South Africa ? This true? If not where can I get hold of one ?

Any specific reason why you want a hardtail?

For the price of the Meteore, you can get a pretty nice full-susser.

Just a thought.

Hog, FS in the price range will be heavier.... my meteore elite weights in at around 10kg and the lightest FS with semi-decent components in my price range was heavier than my old schwinn mesa (16kg).

Isn't the Meteore Ultimate Carbon around R25k? Surely that can buy something lightish?

I'm no expert on prices and weight, so maybe I should rather put my foot back in my mouth. Wink

SP, virtually all full susser's are going to be heavier than a top of the range hard tail and unless its a downhill bike, it will come in around 13 - 14kg's

You don't buy a FS to save weight, you buy it because of the suspension.

exactly Thuggie, and we all know that epoh is an utter weight weenie - then again, who can blame him for wanting a bike that weighs less than he does?

Sorry, I think I side-tracked your thread a bit, so back on topic:

I can HIGHLY recommend Mike's Bikes. I've had nothing but awesome service from them.

Thx Slowpoke, I will check those shops out.

There are so many awesome bikes but I dont think I want to spend more than 25k. I am trying to avoid buying something cheap and then I have to buy another bike because I like the sport and want to race faster!  Initially I just want to go MTB'ing to have fun but I know myself - when that gun goes I race Shocked

Any more info on the Stevens bikes ?
