Hype Posted November 3, 2006 Share I'm fairly new to tandem racing and I'm learning fast that it can be an extremely uncomfortable experience. At first I thought it was the saddle but now I realise that it's the muscles in the lower buttocks that get worked over big time. Anyone know what causes that. Is it that you're sitting for longer periods ? Are there any veteran tandem riders who can offer advice on how to make the ride more comfortable. Or do you just get used to it over time ? Cois Posted November 3, 2006 Share Check the setup of the bike. Do you pilot or stoke?

Welcome to the Double the Fun Brigade and trust me you will enjoy it. The discomfort you are experiencing can be attributed to many things which includes your saddle, set up, pedal technique, fitness level, cycling knowledge but more than likely can be attributed to three things - set up, saddle and T.I.T.S. (Time In The Saddle). Set up - depending on where you stay but either go and see John at Willie Engelbrecht or Gary at Cycle Lab.Saddle - have it checked, get the best you can afford as besides your stoker but it is gonna be your friend for a long time.T.I.T.S. - The more you get, the easier it gets
KlapperKnop Posted November 4, 2006 Share Initially I found the same problem ... also thought it was the saddle and setup .... my son and I was not in sync with getting out of the saddle ... lately i have no issues with my hamstrings ....
