Hi all,

Does anybody have experience with a 9spd wide range cassette?

I have 2x9 brifters and RD. My gravel build will start off as a 2x or 1x 9. The FD mech will provide a challenge since road FD's are generally bottom-pull and  my frame is a top-pull MTB setup.

I have done the pulley routine in the past to pair a bottom-pull FD with a top-pull frame, but I want to try a 1x this time around.

Is it worth it? My aim is to comfortably reach a top end of 40, yet not have to push my bike up Suikerbossie or Du Toits.

What are your views on a 34/11-40 if in fact it's worth doing it?

Thx, appreciated

I like 1x set-ups, I would say it is worth it, the big jumps in gears might be something to get used to, I had a 42 front with 11-40 (10 speed) cassette on my build before I went 11 speed.

I now have 42 front and 11-42(11 speed) casette.

As a matter of interest what 9sp wide range cassette (11-42) did you use?

I have an LTWO one but it's pretty crappy and I gave up with it ... Never could get it to shift right ... Or even good enough to be comfortable to ride with.

Sorry I will Edit my post, this was 10 speed.

No worries, thanks .... I was hopeful!

As you say definitely think 1x is the way to go. I'm a big fan of 1x in fact so much so I now have a road bike with 1x and will set up my TT bike like that as well

I am currently using the 9 sp Sunrace 11-40 but it it is not as good as the Chinese 11-42's I have been using. Half the price of the big brands and last virtually the same time ....in my case anyway.
