Hi Guys,

Looking for some updated information on trails around Gauteng that are still pretty safe, clean and worthwhile. My son is really starting to enjoy mtb and I want to start taking him to trails thats still good. We have done the Benoni Country Club a few times but thats pretty flat and I would like to start getting him on some climbs too. Nothing too serious but fun enough.

The usual suspects I have heard are terribly bad and dirty now like big red barn and Modderfontein reserve. Is Thaba Trails still good? which others would be recommended? I would really appreciate the inputs.

Taroko (Modderfontein) is very nice

Asidlale (Leeuwkop Golf Club aka “the prison”) is a great ride but can be very muddy

Northern Farm always excellent

Danielsrust is great to get miles in and see some animals while you’re at it - it’s not trails like a dedicated trail place - it is not muddy at all at the moment

Wolwespruit is good fun but can also be very muddy and slippery - it’s kind of on the side of a mountain

Avianto currently extremely muddy - same with Van Gaalen and honestly most of the Magalies stuff

Cycle Lab Bike Park is a great spot to build tech skills

Then there’s also Thaba Trails and Die Bosveld but haven’t been to either myself and don’t know their current state. Should be good though as they’re very popular.

We did the trailseeker event at Cradle Moon which he really enjoyed bar all the back markers and traffic. The next one is at the bosveld... maybe thats an idea to get to know the place also...

Many thanks for the information.
