I finally got a response from Favero. Disappointing news but at this point I’ve made peace with the fact that it’s a loss. Unfortunately a costly error on my part. IMG_3601.png.583d368a3f4891434151bbb6469fa61e.png

Well, at least we now have confirmation that Favero is indeed locking pedals!
In your case, though, it seems they didn’t even offer the option to reactivate them…
I’m still waiting for a response myself, but if they confirm that my unit was stolen, at least I’ll have grounds to raise the issue with Vinted and my credit card provider.

Agreed, this really pees me off. I would love to do something about the stolen goods market but not sure how to tackle it.

Unfortunately the stolen goods market is international. The can of worms that can be opened here…..

it’s a good thing Favero is remote locking their units. That’s at least a deterrent. Quarq , SRAM etc should all do the same. Lock an electronic groupset if the bike and  parts serial number is reported as stolen. Might actually bring down insurance premiums

In fact, they don’t explicitly acknowledge locking the pedals, but if they give me the same answer, I’ll definitely explore that route — since I know mine stopped working immediately after being connected to the app.
I’d also insist on asking what actions they are taking against the people who actually steal the goods, because as it stands they’re only penalizing the end user, who in most cases isn’t even aware of the situation…

I partly agree, but I think they should be more transparent about this so people can avoid buying them in the first place.
Otherwise, most will just assume the pedals broke down and that they simply have no warranty — which would seem normal…

In my case, for example, the pedals were brand new and I was able to activate them through the app, which is a requirement for the warranty.
It makes no sense that only a few weeks later they were suddenly locked without any notice.

Agreed, I wonder how many “good deals” would go sour…

I find the fact that it is a prototype to be really interesting, surely it must be fairly easy to track down exactly who it was stolen from and returned and unlocked. I have asked Favero about this and I’ll share their response.

Fortunately the seller has agreed to refund me in full. He has been ignoring me for days, I contacted the only pro cyclist in the country who is very well respected and a friend of mine. I got a message within minutes about the refund.

Mmm, great that you’re being refunded , not great that you had to go to those lengths to get a response though and I recall you saying it was a reputable dealer, but I guess it’s a win at the end of the day

Agreed, there is a language barrier but I don’t know. Maybe he would have responded, maybe not.
