Hey Hubbers 👋

Many of you who ride in and around Randvaal will know Café du Cirque, affectionately called The Circus Coffee Shop that iconic cyclist hang-out with the workshop out back, the smell of pizza, and the sound of freewheels.

Behind the bench in that little workshop is Adrian van Rooyen, the humble, soft-spoken mechanic who’s kept so many of our bikes (and mornings) running smoothly.

Adrian has lived with Keratoconus a degenerative eye disease for the past decade. Recently, doctors discovered that he’s also developed Cataracts, which must be removed before he can receive the special lenses needed to treat his condition. Without the surgery, he faces permanent vision loss.

Thanks to the kindness of his doctor, Adrian received a major discount on the surgery. He now needs R29 000 to cover the remaining procedure costs, plus the new lenses that will restore his sight afterward.

To help, the Café du Cirque community has launched a verified fundraising campaign on BackaBuddy.

👉 Donate or share the campaign here:

Every rand helps whether it’s R50, R500, or simply sharing this post.

Let’s rally behind one of our own  the man who’s fixed our bikes, shared a coffee, and never once complained.

 Let’s help Adrian see again.

UPDATE: Surgery done, now lenses needed 🙏

Hi Hubbers,

Quick update on Adrian from Café du Cirque.

The cataract surgery was successful (R29,000), and thanks to this community we raised just under R28,000  which is amazing 🙏

The next step is now critical: Adrian needs specialised scleral contact lenses due to Keratoconus (irregular cornea shape normal glasses don’t work).

We’ve now received the official quote from the optometrist (attached below for transparency):

👉 Total: R27,502

This covers the lenses, fitting, and required solutions.

So we’re still short roughly R28k to get him fully functional again.

If you’ve already helped, thank you.
If you can share again or contribute, this final step is what gets Adrian back to work and normal life
