Tri Bars, onto SLIGHTLY Ovalized Giant Revolt h/bars...?

Popped around to see a mate with an Engineering workshop, here in Paarden Eiland, who is also an avid cyclist/downhiller, etc, somhe could make up some ‘spacers’ for me, to ‘space out’ round clamps on an ovalized bar…

He simply SWITCHED the clamps from the ‘regular’ outside position, where the handlebar is indeed Oval, to INSIDE the tri-bars, where the bars are - briefly - round before quickly ovalizing…

Et Voila! Problem solved with a simple positional switch, and he is now machining (or, rather, 3D printing…) a spacer to enable fitment of my Garmin bracket, so an easy (and safe…) win!

That's super, man I love what I like to call 'solution finders' as opposed to 'parts fitters' ... my mate @GrahamW from The Workshop in Alberhoughton is one of those. They are unfortunately few and far between! I'm busy with a 'rescue frame' project, a Giant Propel with all its proprietary bits. His advice, help and bits and bobs have been invaluable! If anyone is interested I could start a build thread for it I guess 🤷

The stuff he has done for me or suggested/advised to solve what I consider difficult, he always comes up with some way to get it done!

Just 2 ideas, use it don't use it 😉

I 3D printed this for my TT bike, been using it quite a while.

Would one of these Garmin mounts, sold on Temu and I've seen them here in the classifieds, not also be a solution?

Ben which brand did you use in pic 2 ?

I recommended the Forza mount, but it kicks out a bit wide where it bolts to the stem....

Excellent, will investigate solution #2 first, and report back, Dankie!

You're welcome! I have a few of those on bikes. There are short and long versions so just check which would be right.

@ChrisF ai man ...  I don't know the 'make', just take the cheapest ones on Temu in my wife's order 😀

I doubt it's Forza though ....

At least @Zebra knows to check that dimension before buying 😋

Test fitted the tri-bars on the Revolt last nite, they work fairly well, better than i was expecting, and this weekend will make some adjustments to increase the safety of a round clamp on an (slightly ovalized) bar, and report back here…

Yes, they ARE a little short.

Noted on the pedestrians and traffic; i commute around 05h30, and the twin lanes of Beach Road Sea Point…

….as well as then through the WORKING harbour, have seemingly/very few ‘threats’ at that time, but thanks for your concern- appreciated and noted!

@capediver nice tri bars you have (incl risers); those WOULD have suited me better, but going to see how i get on with my ones…

Question; it’s probably optical illusion/angle of photo, but it APPEARS as if you do not have space to CURL your fingers around the bars where your Garmin is mounted, or is it purely the angle…?

PS: my bars are mostly for a 1x per week, one-way early commute, but I have my eye POSSIBLY on a future multi-day tour or stage race, and the bar extensions are handy for mounting LIGHTWEIGHT stuff, and a change in position, etc.

Perspective....

VID_20251003_090210_00_007_2025-12-18_22-21-48_screenshot.jpg.fafb009d16c66b62b45adbc48c356d11.jpg

so these are the straight carbon handles....they are OK but the angle does put a bit of strain on the wrists over a long drag as your wrists are extended forward to grip them, so I have swapped them out for the ones with the up-turned ends.20251218_222426.jpg

PS an added benefit is that they really activate the suspension of the Redshift stem because of the increased "lever" length they give to the fulcrum at the stem mount...with no tribars the "lever" length is only to the outer edge of the brake levers maximum...now its double and the dampening from the suspension in the stem is so much more active!

Oh and risers are a must if you not a tri athlete in full race mode for aero gains...for me anyway...I found having no risers quite tiring and you will find out about seat position and your pubic bone as well as muscles you never knew you had in the first few k's!!!! I got 60mm which is much better...the 75's would be best...

PPS because they are so solid they can also support a barbag underneath and all sorts of gadgets as you can see! Garmin Edge 1040S, drone remote, camera remote, ICE ID....

Apologies for poor audio in vid attached but you'll get my drift!

Informative, thanks. I do have space for hands on my upper bars, however i will almost certainly investigate/add risers. Are they easily /freely available?

(Profile Design, the SMALLER tri-bars, dont wish to swap bars out…)

Thanks

I got mine overseas but any local supplier of Profile Design should have them, just be aware that you need the riser that fits your specific type of bars and clamps you have as they have a few styles of risers...not cross compatible...

https://fluidlines.co.za/collections/profile-design

https://www.takealot.com/profile-design-bracket-riser-kit-60mm-including-bolts/PLID90019268

You get risers for:
