I have a Signal S720 which I like but I battle up even a slight hill. I'd like an easier ride.
Would an upgrade on the same make - the Signal S920 - be a good idea?
I would appreciate any info to advise which is the correct bike for me.
Thanks in advance

You have a gear ratio problem.. not necessarily a bike problem..

go chat to your local about changing out your cassette, and maybe chain rings to something more suitable for your fitness and strength level.. 😉👍🏻

your deraileur  hopefully can take bigger cassettes 🤔 otherwise you can just change that out maybe 🤷🏼‍♂️

Don't waste your money....... You won't notice the difference.

There is only one way to improve your hill climbing and that is to train on hills.

Actually, there is a second option. If you are overweight, shed some kilos.

Thanks for the response Eugene but

I probably should have mentioned that I borrowed my sister's bike and the hill was absolutely no problem - hence my desire to change my bike.  So... it's not about me whether I'm overweight or unfit but the bike itself.

Hi,

Does your sister have the exact same model and spec bike as yours? If not, it could be worth looking into what the differences are and then making sure whatever you buy next at least matches that. There are quite a few components and spec choices that make up the sum of a bike.

The 920 would likely provide a better overall ride since it is a 29er with a 1x12 drivetrain, while the 720 is only a 27.5 with either a LTWoo 1x10 or Microshift 1x9. This means the 920 has a wider range of gearing and larger wheels, which will roll more easily. Also have a look at the @Titan Racing Bikes range they are available on the Hub to chat and should have something that might work for you.

Edit: The S920 has a unisex version with better specifications, while the Skye S920 is specifically designed for women with entry-level specs. I'm not sure which S920 you are referring to.

hi Bev, from a quick google i see that the 920 (current) and Skye 720 (discontinued) both have an 11-50 cassette, and probably the same size chainring.

so, if the gearing is indeed the same, then i'd put my money on the bearings - when last was it serviced? chances are all your pedalling energy is going nowhere because either the hubs or BB need some TLC.

a 29" wheel is not going to get you up a hill that a 27.5" wouldnt. discount wheel size here, and either will 12 speed vs 10

Thank you Barry and Ross for the response.  However... I'm now completely confused as to what to do.  But I do think my bike is LOOONNG overdue for a service - it's first service.  So, I think that's where I'll start.

Just a shout out to everyone who responded (apart from Mr Sarcastic :( ).  I honestly appreciate the help and I'm on my way to get my bike serviced and will go from there.

Happy riding all :)

You ain't seen nothing yet.  ..........  BTO will approve of the use of their pun 😜

Wait till the lynch mob comes out. They are probably all nailed to their mobile devices, streaming the Epic.

Hope you find a solution to your problem.
