Marius Posted November 9, 2006 Share <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Hi Hubbers, So yesss, did one race on my R500-R600 a pop Tubby Tyre and some guy whom will remain nameless (Russel de Jager) decided he wanted a new bike and so went forth and thru his bike in front of mine, my tubby broke his Covelo Frame in two but got a hole in the side wall in the process.. Sooo now I'm told some really hardcore Trekkies can fix my little tyre'tjie?? It requires sticking and patching and re-gluing and sounds very technical... Anyhow, is there some1 on theHub that knows some1 or can themselves fix this, I'd pay the person for his / her affords in fixing the tyre?how does 200 bokkies sound?? Mudsimus Posted November 9, 2006 Share In the sidewall you'll have some trouble fixing it. I tried to open up a tubby once and it wasnt very sucsessfull. Normal puntures(thorns etc) can be fixed by adding a liilte stans.
MWdeJager Posted November 9, 2006 Share So M, sal jy 'n patched tubby risk vir jou Argus volgende jaar? I would not, maar miskien is ek net bietjie paranoid
Marius Posted November 9, 2006 Share Sure MW, going the DC on them aswell. They are stronger than Normal Road tyres and your chances of getting a puncher is alot less than the flimsy normal road tyres. I'd go as far as to say If I'd have used my normal tyres and AC wheelset I'd be short a wheelset now. the combination of stronger / higher pressure tyre and stronger higher tention wheelset saved me a few bucks at the end of the day, the AC's would have folded around that cervelo like a pancake! Sal jy 'n PATCHED tubby vir die Argus gebruik????
BikeMax Posted November 9, 2006 Share Marius - having seen that Tub I can tell you there is no chance of a repair. The casing is split on the sidewall. A tub can only be repaired if the inner tube has a small hole that can be patched like a normal puncture would be.
Marius Posted November 9, 2006 Share o, O, net as hy klaar op die Rim is. Dus mos maar soos om met stns te ry, my wiel is vol gatte maar die stans het dit geseal en ek race elke race daarmee. TitusTi Posted November 9, 2006 Share That'll be a new Tub then? Maybe CWC has an allroad hazard guarantee?
Marius Posted November 9, 2006 Share Yes in Dreamy dream-land maybe TitusTi...but yesss, I'm getting a new Tubby from CWC, at a good price I might add. R580 for get this, brand new Conti Compitition Tubby, brand new Value extention ( I don't like the ones that came with the Eastons), the glueing and labour, not bad since the tyre alone retails for over R600 bucks. TitusTi Posted November 9, 2006 Share Yeah, I don't trust anyone to glue my tubbies, other than me of course! We all saw what happened to a certain someone on the tour thanks to his tubbies!
Marius Posted November 9, 2006 Share Do tell us more Ti???!?! I got such a fright when Fatty told me in the middle of the race my tubby is coming lose, he was just kidding but I did not know so I moved to the back and asked a few ppl if this was true...not funny fatty, will get you! TitusTi Posted November 9, 2006 Share You mean you don't remember Joseba Beloki going down and breaking just about everything? Then Lance went all Cyclocross on their ass and stayed up? That was Beloki's tubby rolling, I don't think there have ever been any honest answers about that but I don't think that mechanic is still gainfully employed in his chosen field. bikemonster Posted November 9, 2006 Share TitusTi, wasn't there a rival theory that Beloki locked the rear under braking, got caught in some melted tar and that was what ripped the tubby off the rim? Now I REALLY do not want to re-open the tubby vs. clinchers can of worms, I just want to know what those of you who ride tubbies do if you flat during a race. Do you call it game over and wait for the broom wagon or do you glue on a spare?
HomerSimpson Posted November 9, 2006 Share Yeah' date=' I don't trust anyone to glue my tubbies, other than me of course! We all saw what happened to a certain someone on the tour thanks to his tubbies![/quote'] Feel the same way about my track bike. Seen a couple of instances where a tubby came off at speed... Having said that, when you glue your first tubby and you take the embankment at speed for the first time you start wondering...did I do this right? Tubbies are nice if you're a mechanic or a pro or can pay someone (you trust) to do all the work on them. Yeah I heard the rival theory as well, at the end of the day the tyre shouldn't have been ripped off the rim, tubby or not.
