Very sad situation! When this happens near the Sun Coast Casino, although not the cyclist's fault, we may consider it's a case of "wrong place  / wrong time" Many of the drivers in this area are probably trashed/tired, or both. But, when you get a whole group taken out on a relatively quiet road, in Glen Anil, on a Sunday morning, it's tragic!

Personally, I believe the Metro Police and national authorities need to WAKE UP! Do they actually care? In my opinion, they lack the desire, integrity, manpower and means to educate and control the behaviour of motorists on our roads. Look at what they did to the Road Accident Fund!

The image the Road Traffic Authorities portray is one that indicated that only those offences which are "revenue earners" are taken seriously.

Let's hope the National Media and News papers take this topic to heart and cause those in power to look at the reality of the situation in our country rather than where their next buck is coming from!

The BIG PICTURE is not just cyclists - it's the general attitude of all road users to the law and order of the Land. Set an example and other's will follow. You can make a difference!

Start by riding in the protest on Tuesday! (Let's see if we can share the front page with Mr. ZUMA!!!)

Sad news.  The amount of close calls we had over the weekend was scary.

Bad time of the year.  Economy is down.  No rain.  Far away from the December holidays.  Everyone is in a foul mood.

Be careful out there please!!!!

on a positive note, these stories are getting media attention. for a durban hit-and-run to feature as a standalone story in the star and not the last brief is quite rare. holy roller2008-08-04 01:06:37

Condolences to the families and victims of this accident.  I hope that the perpetrator is locked away for a very long time!!!

How "conveniant", maybe if it was a pedestrian he hit they would have been at his place of employment with a warrent to arrest him.
