One has to still factor in accommodation before and after the event, fuel costs, tolls etc up until now I was all geared up to enter on Monday when entries open, think I might have to give it a miss and do Argus the following weekend instead

Dirty Twin Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Surely there costs have also escalated. Fuel has gone crazy which is what they would use a lot of transporting all our goods, food, accom, etc. I reckon on fuel alone their costs would be up at least 20%. Just playing Devils advocate.

That pays for a fantastic holiday to ride just about anywhere in the country. Great race and the demand is there. Will still be sold out in no time at all.

The bad news is that we have to pay VAT on our entry fees for the first time this year. This has given our entry fee a rather alarming jump. Let?s hope that you can convince a VAT registered concern or individual to sponsor your entry fee.Cost: R3225/person inclusive of Vat or R6450/team.

Last year June I paid R7 a litre of petrol, now I pay R12 a litre for diesel.Yes given the accommodation stays the same, but no-one can complain about lack of food and facilities.If you can do it cheaper then please go ahead. Stop moaning about it. Its up to you to decide if you're going to ride it. If your bike is less than R5000 then you have a point, but I'm sure it's not the case for 99% or that field.

[/quote'] I don't think anyone's moaning Borriz... just expressing surprise at a massive 23% price hike Oh and the entry fee that one can afford in an event is not necessarily directly proportional to what one's bike is worth. Some people save for a long time to afford what they ride
Dibles Posted August 8, 2008 Author Posted August 8, 2008 Agreed ND. The only complaint I have is that they posted the entry fee and then changed it overnight. I need to inform my teammate of the costs and it makes it hard to do so if they potentially keep changing the cost. I received the official email stating the cost a short while ago so I doubt whether it will change before Monday.By the way...my teammate's bike did cost him less than R5000 and I hope he doesn't chicken out when I tell him what the entry fee. He is new to cycling and doesn't even own a cycling top etc so he has more race-related expenses than most of the entrants. Sani2C is still worth the money for me.
The Saint Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 Sure it is a 23% hike? Cause they stated they now need to charge VAT which is 14% and then also stated that they only increased costs by 8%. So 14 +8 is 22 in my book which would mean that there is one little guy missing. Anyways if VAT is payable that should not be taken into account as an increase. There are 2 things certain in life "Death & Taxes"
