Pocketbites' date=' the first time I saw the see-saw I didn't even think twice. Just went over it. As with many obstacles with MTB, if you hesitate, you'll fall.[/quote']

Like an MX bike...Don't hesitate, accelerate!

This thing was built "belts and braces" which was probably it's undoing. It was so solid that it was quite difficult to tip over, hence the number of people wiping. When you went past the fulcrum it took a bit of time to get going.

Funny enough the old one was of a much poorer construction but was easier to ride as it was lighter.

Still, if it's outside of your level of skill don't do it or walk it. I have never seen anyone walk the thing to scout it out.

The trick is going to be in limiting the damage done to our access there.

The next issue is going to be when someone gets hurt on those jumps by the Scout hall thingie.

I am all for "only ride what you can", but this could explode into a situation where we don't get to ride there at all...

Let's hope the new bikepark in Fourways will satisfy those of us with a bit of adventure lust.

That way we can keep it behind fences where there is specific intent and liability in riding the technical stuff.

the first time I saw it I thought twice and then three times and then I picked up my bike and walked through the spruit

The bearings were of the sealed type and way larger than needed for this application. The units were  (when I  had a look 3 weeks ago) in perfect  condition with no rust' date=' so I don't think that they malfunctioned

WTF....?! BEARINGS...?! And people are complaining about the engineering...?!

This is one of the many teeter-totters I rode in Canada....the home/be-all & end-all/birthplace/mecca/god's gift to mankind of freeriding!

I never-ever saw a single bearing!

That really is a shame that the guy got seriously hurt, but as stated here many, many times he made the call and chose to ride the obsticle and as I recall there was a "ride at your own risk" sign next to the teeter-totter.

Not sure what more people want? Next thing you know, the dirt jumps will be leveled. I don't ride them cos I currently don't have the skill/confidence but I hope to one day be able to do so and I hope that they will still be there.

I guess the new bike park is going to have to have monster signs everywhere stating the obvious.
