Spruit See-saw in the Sandton chronicle again.

Was the article written by the same wannabe 'journalist' that penned the article on quad bikes on the spruit that got all the other stuff removed for us...? I wish bumping people off wasn't a punishable offense...

And this is the reason more and more of this spots will be built in secret and only a select few knows about it. Two spots in Pretoria comes to mind. Unfortunately the general ZA mtber community cannot even lift their front wheel...

but this is where politically apathetic south africans do themselves down. i subscribe to "bike", and month-in, month-out they have success stories about trail advocacy groups winning the right to have their trails.

I fail to see th eproblem here. I looked at the thing, decideded I was yellow, opted not to do it, got challenged by my younger brother, did the stupid thing and took up the challenge, did it, scared myself sh-tless and decided not to do it again. On the way back, my brother fell off and dislocated his shoulder. Whose fault is it? His and he knows it. Do we need warning signs on our car doors before we get into a car? Do we need signs outside every junkfood place warning us of the dangers? Why do we need to be told not to do something when it is blatantlyobvious that you run the risk of injuring yourself. We must be a total bunch of idiots!Angry

Sure are! What's that warning on American rear view mirrors?

I think it was "Objects in mirror are behind you" Confused

My wife laughed at me for not riding it' date=' but I am still here today. I chose not to ride it, and that's that. If you choose to ride it, do it at your own risk. Don't blame anyone else. MintSauce said it right, take responsibility.Engineering??? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to build a see-saw. I had a look at how they built it as I wanted to build one to put next to it. It was to be a bit wider and with "hand rails" on either side, for safety. This way, one had the option to do the Macho, the Woosie, and the river cross. Any, back to my point... whoever built that see-saw, did a good job in my opinion. The bearings were of the sealed type and way larger than needed for this application. The units were? (when I? had a look 3 weeks ago) in perfect? condition with no rust, so I don't think that they malfunctioned. The only explanation can be that he rode up the see-saw too slow and then fell off before before he reached the pivot point. I have seen someone come off, just after the pivot point, but due to his speed and hight, still landed on the other side.

Had a chat to Rich Beswick yesterday about all this, and it seems you all on the same page we are. No-one has to ride it, and you can just as easily slip on a rock walking through the river part, so the see-saw should not be to blame. There are signs next to it that clearly state 'ride at own risk'. The guys who designed it were engineers, and they used industrial bearings, so it would last ages and work well.

What i think happend, is the see-saw did take a while to come down, but that if you go too fast. The fact that he did not un-clip suggests lack of riding skills. I have seen people walk across the same see-saw,un-clipped, next to their bike...

It is a real shame he got so badly hurt, and my thoughts go out to him and his family. But... the sadest things is, that if he had not turned around and started blaming the bridge and the people who built it, we all could have done some thing to help him. Maybe even some sort of fund that we pitch in to show our support. However, given his direction of blame and the way it's been written about in the media, i wouldn't support that now...

Dear Editor,

I was riding my usual route to Bronkies last Thursday when a car came past me so close that I dived onto the pavement scratching my bike and knee.

The knowledgable folk at www.thehubsa.co.za tell me that this happened because I was riding on "tar". Obviously this "tar" thing is dangerous and should be removed.

I have done some research and found out that 48,000km of "tarred" roads exist in South Africa so we better get cracking!

Your fan,

Eldron.

Discalimer: Please note this is a parody - I did not fall off my bike so don't send cookies and plasters - I was also kidding about the "tar" thing. Although removing it all would make mountain biking more popular...

Hmmm....
