take this for example:

if you are a licensed cyclist belonging to a club and want to ride PPA League events it will cost you ?R2 000 for the year before you have sat your bum down on your bike.

PPA member ? R200 (can't remember the exact fees)

Club member ? R200 (are there clubs that charge less?)<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

CSA  license ? R150

League numbers & entry ? R600 (12 months / 12 events and that is if it hasn't increased lately)

Race entry fee  - R80 x 12 = R960 (average entry fee)

my 2 cents - why are we the only region where there are 2 cycling bodies running the sport iow ppa /club membership/ CSA license / League fee are all duplications of each other. What does the R600 league entry fee get you ? a race number and frame number?

And speaking of Entry Fees...

How about PPA's Hillclimb, R60 (if you a member) for 4km - R15/km

And it a closed road, so there is no need for traffic marshalls.

Tell me where we are not being ripped of at the moment; petrol, food, home loan, chicks you name it everything is a lot more expensive than last year.

I was looking at doing the Clanwilliam triathlon but the price was a bit steep for such a short distance.

yip...they being ripped of....it is just a matter of time when we just gonna have a few races cause it will get too expensive for the normal person to enter everyone. Imagine you are not a member.....you must check the fees there!!!!

I am going to do it this year. It is after all on my doorstep and I believe I can do a sub 3 at my 2nd one. But will be very selective about my rd racing from now on. I for 1 suck at them and 2 they are expensive.

When I started racing about 12/13 years ago my brother told me: "now you have to start to budget for races....." man was he right, but now that budget is getting smaller and smaller Cry

so yeah, "selective" shall be the name of the game from now on....
