Track cycling is boring.  And I have quite a few mates who have tried to get me involved.

And by not getting involved you're missing out on the most adrenaline inducing discipline the sport of cycling can attest (BMX is close).

Don't knock it TILL you've tried it' date=' and don't be ashamed to admit you're too scared to give it a bash, you wouldn't be the first or the last Embarrassed

too true, shortlegs! i did a course-type thing with sheldon (gnctrack) and some of the tcs guys at pilditch last year. was scared witless when we got a paceline going! the forces into the corners catch you totally by surprise! loved it, bought a track bike, but still trying to find a set of cajones big enough to actually race it!

track, bmx, mtb don't diss it until you've tried it. they all require different bike skills and will contribute something to your road cycling. Road - nothing better than a smooth piece of tar and cruising at 40 kph+ in a pace line, track - the exhilaration of coming out of someones slip and hammering down the home straight and then flying up the banking, Mtb - is just fun, single track is lekker, its not affected by the elements (who cares if its raining, muddy and windy), i personally don't like the constant jarring of my bones for hours on end (see road and smoothe surfaces. too old for BMX so i cant comment

nice post, but i have to disagree on one point: the elements and singletrack. the changing conditions of this according to the elements is what makes mtb so much fun!

what i meant was , the elements like wind and rain wont affect my decision to ride mtb whereas with "road" if its raining i stay at home.

I am still trying to build up an old school BMX from the 80's. If anyone knows where I can find a Redline, GT, Diamond Back or CW (all bikes I use to race) frame from the 80's please let me  know. Any old school parts too.

You and me both Gary... I have a line on a dead standard Kuwuhara mini, chrome with red from the 80's. Even has the original Dia Compe brakes... Bugger wont sell it though.

I got one of the first Kuwahara BMX bikes in SA via Basil at Deale n Huth...

( 80/81 I think ) When ET came out I was the hero in the neighnorhood!  Raced for a few years at Alrode, Lonehill, Kadimah etc. Even raced a Cresta night race on a friday night as well once or twice..

Bmx kept me of the streets for my entire high school career and for that reason I am so chuffed that my 8 yr old has taken to it.

And having said that

KDEE I already got a Dia Comp caliper just need lever. Also got Redline original bars, front blade and flite cranks. Man I can just imagine a stash of old school parts in someones garage somewhere. Plenty available on the net form the US and UK but prices are insane.

I'm also hoarding my old BMX stuff. I have an old Hutch Pro racer and a Race Inc. Wouldn't mind a decent set of redline flite cranks. I've been a member at VintageBmx.com for about ten years, and in that time the collector prices have become ridiculous and the parts are becoming really scarce.

Still have all the components in a box:20070608_134102_IMG_2208.JPG

velo, i think i want to puke when i see that pic. my mate (technically my ex-mate now) got a good deal on one of those - araya rims, and other original bits - for about a grand. i told him not to let his son ride, and instead re-chrome it, build it and i even sourced decals on vintagebmx.com. did he listen? nope. chainstay is snapped, bb is cranked, etc, etc ... smiley19.gif
