Derailleur hangers!!!

Here is an idea:

If the bicycle manufactures want to make more money then why don’t they invent a flimsy little piece that is easy to break and attach it between the frame and the derailleur

Once had to try and fix a Ti bike that didn't have a hanger. It took forever, good news is the frame can now take a 140mm rear wheel!

that's because, LA and hincapie NEVER fall off their bikes, EVER, and therefore the hanger is one place to make MASSIVE weight savings.Wink

they don't fall of their bikes, their bikes loose the handlebars and the rest is catered forTongue

Overseas you can buy breakaway bolts for rear derailleurs, that are specifically weaker than the bending point of your fancy dropout and will break before damage can occur.

 

I dare you though to go to your LBS in SA and ask for a Breakaway bolt.
