Dirty Twin Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 So here is a question. Out of everyone that has voted. Who has used both? I have and the functionality on the 705 garmin is in a league of its own Me and I prefer the Garmin
Icarus Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 sorry, I probably should have said software on the unit. The Training Center software is pretty cool. Havent heard about sport tracks. I'll give that a try sometime. I had some issues where the unit would not switch off, even after a reset. Then the GPS didnt pick up the satellites etc etc. BUT now that a total reload was done, it's behaving again I must say the guys in Cape Town are pretty good when it comes to service.
hagar Posted September 3, 2008 Author Posted September 3, 2008 So here is a question. Out of everyone that has voted. Who has used both? I have and the functionality on the 705 garmin is in a league of its own yea very good questions maybe a few units on loan should convince the unconverted hahahaha i have had the good fortune of using 3 diffrent types ; 1 st was ciclosport hac 4 pro plus cost me r2500 i bought the most expensive in the shop and thought it was the best ( this was pre hub days) now lies in my cupboard it is very similar to the polar in functionality but she dont like rain and uploads to pc are a mission. 2 was my little edge 305 so easy to use 6 function display time of ride/speed/cadence/hr/distance/ time of day all on one screen no unit has this all on one screen.upload simple and easy to do. Sportstracks / Google earth you dont need any more. Virtual trainer i can go on and on. oh yes the Mapsource software with the Garmin you can use on your pc to find places and addresses in south africa. you can use tracks for africa software to do routeable routes in the western cape print directions and you can navigate off the bike in your car by means of weighpoints.polar you can just use on the bike and if you go jogging come on man see the light 3 i borrowed bonnie's polar 725x what a schlepp hell its difficult to see the 3rd display on the top you need glasses and if you dont download the data it gets full quickly in my opinion complicated
Gman1834 Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 I must vote for the Polar due to there excellent service, but i really really want a Garmin 305
hagar Posted September 3, 2008 Author Posted September 3, 2008 I must vote for the Polar due to there excellent service' date=' but i really really want a Garmin 305[/quote'] you wont need that heavy wheel magnet yea when those nigerians pay my $$$$ in i will buy you one for a wedding prezzie damm scammers dont know where they got my email from !!!!
SwissVan Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Have always used polar, BUT can see the future is with GPS devices. Polar need to buck up their ideas and stick to basic functions (with GPS) instead of all the extra kaka that you get... Durrent Polar have a GPS device in the pipe line +HIJACK+...and while I'm bitching Polar need to make sure that the cycling CS computers straps work with the running watch and vis versa... Try do a triathlon with a CS400 on your bike and a RS800 watch and only 1 strap???+BIJACK+
hagar Posted September 3, 2008 Author Posted September 3, 2008 Hagar wil jy wegraak of wil jy jou Heart Rate meet? AfricaMike Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 I've used the 720i for a couple of years now and still absolutely love it. I thought it had gone to watch-heaven after it died on me after the first swim at the Imana - they replaced it without question, awesome service. I've used the 16 week training program regularly with great success. My Epic partner swears by his Garmin 305 which they also replaced without question recently. Good screen display and great computer graphics - but the mounting bracket is pathetic. I think both products are great but suspect the Garmin might have the 'edge'. I just like being in my comfort zone so I vote for Polar.
PPWTF Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Forget the GPS and get a Suunto T6C - awesome bit of kit. I've got a T6 and will hopefully upgrade some time later this year. The Sport Science centre uses them above anything else for the accuracy of the collected data, and the T6C has cadence on top of everything else the T6 already did.
hagar Posted September 4, 2008 Author Posted September 4, 2008 only 33% vote for this poll ?? i will tell my nigerian friend that the deal went sour and he should use his money wisely and give to the needy

No power option2. no GPS3. can't compare files with my Polar buddies.4. Price, Suunto is usually more expensive (Overpriced maybe?) Anyway, what is so inaccurate with Polar that Suunto fixes?
PPWTF Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 1. No power option2. no GPS3. can't compare files with my Polar buddies.4. Price' date=' Suunto is usually more expensive (Overpriced maybe?) Anyway, what is so inaccurate with Polar that Suunto fixes?[/quote'] Training Peaks lets you upload Suunto files and your Power Meter files to combine the dataare we really worried about getting lost on a training ride? - the T6 has an altimeter and displays the data in the download, recording both max height and total amount of climbingbothered....If budget is an issue why are we talking about the Garmin 705?Sport science center uses computrainner and Suunto - the T6 records to a clinical / medical accuracy - which I guess is as good as you can get, and tends to be appeal strongly to people looking for the best (coaches, athletes....)I'm not replying to start a bar fight (no need for popcorn and pizza ) I respect your view Willehond - just answering the questions you posed - lively debate keeps the world turning... I'm a Suunto fan, as you can tell from the post. Not saying others can't do the job, just that I've found a device I love (don't tell the wife.... ) and will happily 'promote' it when people are asking questionsPPWTF2008-09-04 01:01:53
