immediately after my "ordeal" saturday avie i called pocketbikes - he's part of the neighbourhood grapevine and "warning system". needless to say he popped around the corner instantly. he then offered to sort the locks and window out for me so that i don't have to put in (another) claim against insurance (having had 2 claims last year). also, to get this all done less than the excess (R250 for windows, R1000 for car - ie locks and R500 for the radio).

what a superstar and what a "family member" (the hub is a family after all) ClapClapClap

Protector of the innocent, helper of damsels in distress, racer of pocket rockets, it's PB! LOL We'll need to get you a mask and a cape. You can buy your own underwear to wear over your tights though.

Nice one man! You must really stop by my house sometime so I can sort out that software for you.

Eish guys, you make me Embarrassed. It's not nice seeing someone down, after what happen. Going through claims, dropping off and collecting car, increase in premiums etc would just make the experience worse. I am quite sure we can replace locks and side window, cheaper than the excess, which would save some bucks and no claim. The nice thing about SP's car, is the door panels and locks come out easily and they never touched the ignition. The hard part is to find second hand locks. One would expect scrap yards to be full of these, but not around the Randburg area. New locks from Toyota is expensive, pirate locks aren't always that strong and then you'd have two keys, one for the doors and one for the ignition. The idea is to get second hand locks and let the locksmith mate them to the original keys.

Will keep you updated

Have you tried getting a price on the OEM part? I had the lock on our gokart fiesta replaced, and it was about R800 for the lock + matching the key.

That actually reminds me that I still need to replace the lock on my Golf. My shopping list will include all the door clips though, since VW think plastic that's about as strong as spit can hold door panels Angry

Hog, I thought about it, but it would be too expensive. I want all three locks, purchased and mated to the keys for that price. Randburg locksmiths charge R120 per lock to mate with the key. I will bargain him down to R100 each (trade pricing)LOL. No one really buys locks from the scrapyard, so I should get those cheap as well.

Shaunh, busy building an east rand motor for a northern suburbs friend. We had the 30L V6 block rebored and also cut the cranks. I can't measure crank clearances during the day, thanks to kids and cell phones. I can concentrate better when things have quietened down in the evenings.

Fatcyclist, thanksLOL. To be really honest, it's not that much work and it's a basic procedure.

Hagar, that cake was great. This job was paid for then alreadyLOL. I'm not into sponge type cakes that much, as they are normally dry and you need a cup of coffee for every bite. This cake, however, was the opposite... you didn't want to spoil the cake with coffee. I was honest with another hubber, I actually had another 10 or 11 pieces on the way homeEmbarrassed.

Wolverine, and everyone else, thank you for the kind words.
