Grip front' date=' speed back.

I use to run Nevegal front and SB8 at the back on my Racer-X and Moto Lite. But for Karoo you can run them front and back. Actually for general trail/XC riding they will be more than fine front and back. If you do hard XC or light AM Nevegal front will work better and of course full on AM Nevegal front and back is a winner.

OR: Maxxis Ignitor front / Maxxis Crossmark rear

OR: WTB Prowler front / WTB Vulpine rear

OR: WTB Wolverine front and back or vulpine back

OR: Racing Ralph front / Furious Fred rear

OR: Nobby Nic front / Racing Ralph rear

Wolverines are great tires. I only reason they came off my bike is cause you don't get them in UST and I run my tires soooooper low pressures.

Agree. I had SB8 front and rear but after the last race I definitely getting something gripper on the front.  On turns with loss stuff over hard pack I got the impression the knobblies was just too small to bite through the loose stuff to the hard pack.  The effect isn?t very confidence inspiring.

With out any doubt or concern up in the front. Handles through sand like a there is none, great cornering, good puncture resistance and low weight and will tackle anything. The Specialized Capitan <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Maxxis Crossmark Tyre>

BikeRadar verdict

3,5 out of 5 stars

"CrossMark is definitely fast, but you?ll come a cropper if you hit a root"

By Bikeradar

Very fast and great value tyre, the Maxxis CrossMark is suited to cross country racers and best in dry conditions.

The CrossMark delivers outstanding straight line speed on hardpack, but can be totally lethal in damp woods. Unfortunately, that almost continuous square block centreline not only holds mud in the wet, but also slips wildly at any hint of a root.

Another tyre with a personality performance tag, the CrossMark was designed for Swiss cross country superhero Christoph Sauser. It certainly goes like the wind in a straight line.

I must say that I was truly amazed by my new Conti Mountain Kings with Black Chilli. Even on the bit of tar I did I did not hear that usual knobby on tar sound.

I see you can fit these for speed or grip' date='what is the best option?Grip at the front and speed at the back?

Not sure about the  Mezcals but I have the Saquarros front and back. I just have them in the "speed" direction, and they are great. Roll fast and grip really well. They are 2.2 but have a big volume. I put them next to some wheels with SB8 2.1 and it they looked bigger by almost and inch(at least).

In mud they clogg up a bit. (especially that clay type mud in the Stellenbosch race)

These are new ----- available towards November in South Africa. But for a fast rolling, non UST tyre, these are gonna fly!

There are some test sets floating around the country and initial feedback is good, but definately only suited for those more "technically gifted" in terms of bike handling skills Thumbs%20Up Having said that, Lance raced with one of  these tyres in the SnowMass event .....20080922_034748_Raven_Low_Res.jpg

Always Mountain Kings! Have had awesome experience with them, they last well and are very hardy. From experience, not just mine but that of 3 other people that I train with, the Maxis cross mark wear very fast and blister terribly, resulting in blowouts when you really dont need it. The Killer bees are awesome, I was a bit aprehensive about using them since they look like slicks! But their grip is superbe and they have a very low rolling resistance on gravel, you can really feel the difference. I could'n't say how they last since I fell on my head and had to give the bike back before I had the chance to do further experiments, but would highly recommend them. But, Conti Mountain Kings always come firstSmile
