Tubeless vs tubes

Tubeless all the way, the dymanic of it is superior in ride quality. Suppose it all depends on what type of riding you do, but I like fast singletrack and technical sections. Being able to run a tyre between 1.8 and 2 bar for my weight of 73kg is great!

I have tested many different types of rims and tyres. the best combination is the real deal, a proper tubeless tyre with a proper tubeless rim. forget about the extra 50 grammes or whatever. shimano XTR / XT wheelset or any of the Mavic Cross max with either maxxis or conti tyres. And choose a decent sealant.

Now with the tubless plug kit for out on the trail, if a puncture doesn't seal you plug it quickly, so no need to carry a lot of spares.

With these combinations, I have used a small handpump to pump them up from fitting the tyre, no compressor or anything.

My thoughts on this are that if you require a compressor to pump it, there is a problem already... what will you do out on the trail?

Choose wisely and it will be the best thing you could have ever done.

I race XC and marathons regularly and this works!

I converted to tubeless in 2002 while I was still doing a lot of riding and races. Roundabout 2005 I went back to tubes purely because they are less hassle if you don?t ride / race regularly.

Dougaroony ? Its actualy quite simple:<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Toobless

= Better performance and comfort, due to lower pressures required and possibly some weight saving and less punctures.

= Can be an issue if you are not technically capable.

= Sealant is messy and requires on going maintenance to replace and keep things that come in contact (valves, inside tyre) clean.

= Burping can be an issue on hard packed fast corners.

Toob?s

= More susceptible to punctures.

= Lower performance / comfort due to higher pressures.

= Tubes are relatively simple to understand and apply compared to tubeless systems.

Ok now I see why some people don't understand .

...seeing everyone has an opinion i may as well air mine...

I use the lightes combination with a sealant... and that is tube tyres (without tubes) and sealant. It makes sense in my mind and i havent been dissapointed to date... touch wood.

I do ride hard and I do carry a spair tube though ;) at least one.

I did indeed! I even followed the link and read it, such was my interest the chiming of BigBen LOL

What I was asking, though, was how much does it burn if you do it with all the 'UST' tyres and stans and joes etc

BTW, what is UST an acronym for if anything?

ask faniefiets what happens when a tubeless tyre pops off the rim...

Or you could post the pictures..?? You did document it didn't u???

DR - Dont get me wrong, i agree tubeless is the way to go if you are prepared to put in the extra effort compared to tubes.

Perhaps in the last few years the rims, tyre and sealants have improved to the extent that they are indeed hassle free??
