I love the bitching about not wanting the american and overseas stuff and then they go and buy the international mags. Right on I'm sure you'll get lots of info about the SA racing scene in those mags as well as all the bikes that are going tobe available in South AfricaThumbs%20Up

How many of you actually contribute to the magazines or offer to write local content for them? Judging by all the comments we see on the hub, we definitely have the knowledge and passion.

How many have vented their anger and disappointment about the content? (this doesn't mean we can't bitch about it on the hub)

Of course they know about the hub, they even published an article on it (with the wrong website address).

Is there enough local content out there to fill a magazine? For a long time, Ride was rather thin on the ground too.

Just my Friday's 3 1/2 cents worth

didn't it used to have quite a bit of afrikaans content?

Ride does have an Afrikaans article with every issue, but it would be nicer to have a complete Afrikaans issue.   How about Ride doing a poll to see how many Afrikaans readers they got?

I have to agree. I do get the US bicycling and it is sooooo sad to see these articles appear here 3 months after it has been published in US mag..

The best was where I saw some of these letters copied. In US magazine a question was asked by say Yellow Johny from Texas. That same question appeared in local magazine - axact to the word..... Only now it was from Peterjie in Welkom.

It is obvious that local editors for SA just need two buttons on his keybord.. Copy & Paste.

The same can be said for other magazines in the Rodale group. It is just Copy and paste..

The same can be said for certain articles in Ride lately. I see lots of articles published in Procycling magazine, just to see them popping up 2-3 months later in RIDE.

Winter Bicycling articles:

Shed those winter kilo's!

Get through winter training in 10 easy steps

Stay motivated this winter

Cross train for better performance this winter!

these EXACT SAME topics has been going on for years....EVERY year!

Still say....put some extra new ideas in the mag for example:

Do photo shoots of VETS teams and interviews(one team every month).

More Race reports.

I dont read any local magazines, let alone buy them, far too light in the pants editorial wise for me and personally, I am not interested in the local racing scene.

I subscribe to both Pro-Cycling and Cycle-Sport and enjoy reading both, they write interesting articles, are not afraid to say what they think and if it offends someone, well so be it.

Local magazines (like our local tv hosts) are so scared to ask pertinant questions in case they offend anyone, so we usually get something like - "Now tell us how did you get involved in cycling" when the guy just got caught with 6kgs of EPO in his boot.Dead

Bicycling still tries to ride on its laurels of, what 3 years ago, when by some ,miracle they got nominated as the best mag somewhere, but since then have hardly even TRIED to improve anything.

smiley36.gif smiley36.gif the same. i'd read a packet of crisps should the need arise! pretty sad considering i read for a living! smiley36.gif

the thing about these mags is that they serve different markets and tastes, and people have brand preferences...like everything else.
