You only get good tools or crap tools. The bad part is the good tools are pricey. Its worth it pauing R50 extra for a good tool then R80 for the bolt you messed up with the cheap tool. Buy the tools that you need for a specific job. About 1 or 2 tools a months. Look at BBB or PRO aswell. Not as good as Park or Pedros, but cheaper.

Rather buy tools individually. A lot of tool kits contain tools that you might never use. Depends on your groupset as well. ie external BB's need different tools to Isis or Octalink etc.

Look at the Park tools website to see what is in thier tool kits and buy accordingly. Park do make good tools, but they can be expensive. Pliers and screw drivers etc you can get at your hardware. BBB, Raliegh and Tacx make good tools as well. Depends on what your lbs has.

Its taking me a while to build up my collection. Over the years I have collected individual tools as required. Now for the skills and space to use them...

Park tools are good, Pedro's are good, but they are aimed at the professional bike whrench who fixes bikes for a living. BBB make a range of tools good enough for most of your needs. My yourself a plastic Big Jim toolbox to store your tools in and buy the tools as you need them. Go and look at www.chainreactioncycles.com under Tools. The whole BBB range is shown there as well as all other brands. Make up your list and happily go and shop at your LBS.

A starter tool list couls ideally be:-

A good set of allen keys (cheap and cheerfull at Midas..... the set with the rounded drive end. It helps when you work in tight places.

A good Chain Breaker.

A combination set of Screwdriver bits and a driver. ( a good set has flats, phillips, hex, torx etc in it. No need for expensive but get good quality)

A good quality adjustable wrench (shifting spanner)

A syringe with athick needle (blunt the needle and use the syringe to oil Derraileurs and other areas that needs small amount of oil)

A good set of cone spanners (do not get if your bike has sealed bearings)

A Chainwheel removal tool (crank extractor)

A BB Tool (if a normal BB get the tool with the handle on it and remember external bearings use a different tool)

A cassette removal tool. (get one that has a handle on it)

A chain whip

Buy yourself the Park Big Blue Book of Bicycle Repairs. It is a handy reference and handles almost all general repairs. I have mine here in Angola.

Cable cutter (thanx Big Ben)

A good workshop stand. I have a Pedros. Working on a bike on the

ground and not properly clamped is an absolute pain.

As for tools, my suggestion is to buy as you need them and buy the

best you can afford or find...

Paragon Tech took over Pedro's from Probike.

They do have stock of the Workshop Kits as well as many of the individual tools. Also Headset presses and Torque wrenches, which are not included in the kit, are available

for pricing, call yout LBS
