Bigben I don't know if you weighed the Specialized when you took that photo...that particular bike comes in at 9.8kg...not bad IMO.

Don't believe all the marketing BS.Here are photo's taken at interbike of Sausers epic about 10.2kg and he has all the lightweight stuff on so the normal bike will probably be more than 10.5kg.Now i ask you is that worth 77K

I'm off to the local SPECIALIZED LBS and heaven help if he does not have one in on display, going to put my name down for a test weekend before the snow arrives 4sure... *drooling picture*

I remember when we still stayed in SA the $ / zar ROE was quite hectic +/- 12:1 and the latest S WORKS were on display at a xc race at Fountains...

price was R63000.00.... also thought i would never own one at that price.

That was about 2001 / 2002, so from 63K to 77K in 6 years is not to bad...

Conrad Stoltz was about the only oke who had one...

Stringbean I weighed that bike myself that is in SA, it weighs 9.8kg (W/O pedals).  Interesting that Sausers epic is so heavy, he even has gripshifts which are much lighter than normal shifters.

I see on Conrad Stoltz' website that he now rides this Epic for the World Champs Xterra. At least a South African World Champ...

From the rumour Burry should be getting his soon.

Also saw the bike at the Spez launch Girr,as you said no pedals size M,no slime or waterbottle cage.By the time you make the bike ready for the trail it will be over 10.5kg.You can build a 10.5kg bike for half that priceEmbarrassed

I think that scale is in pounds - as there is 16 ounces in 1 pound and it has markings for 4, 8, and 12 beofre the 1, so that scale's full rotation is 10lbs so maye, its gone around twice and the bike is 20lbs and 10oz which is 9.355 kgs ??

sauserz bike at world champs(one in pic) weighed 8.6kg ' date='something wrong with these pictures[/quote']

Both cable ties appear to be at equal tension, the long end seems to be the one hanging the supposed bike and the shorter one is at tension too, but the bike is hanging fairly level Confused

Just an observation.

I weighed the standard medium with no weight saving advantages and with tubes in the tires and no pedals the bike weighed 9.8 kg's.

Specialzed also tend to use a digital scale.

I have seen Benno whip out his scale quite often, having Sauser the poor bloke has to weigh every little thing imaginable.

Interesting pictures.

If said bike is as "heavy" as the pics suggested, well I for one don't mind, it did win the World Champs.

I would rather add a bit of weight, gain stifness and improve the responsivesness of my bike.

By golly rock, if the pictuers aren't fakes LOLLOLLOLLOL then you have made an excellent observation, I think you might be right, notice the numbers in red at the bottom of the scale.

Stringbean

Stunning hub and spokes Approve

If they keep paying Specialized for that patent, they might just end up selling the whole kaboodle to Specialzed by 2010, so yes the possibility is beeeeg TongueSmile
