i have been on gatorskins for about two years now and would like to get a new set of tires.

my second set of gators were a bit too puncture prone for me CryCry i got a duiwweltjie in the dead centre of the tire twice and was both in races with tires 2months old i went so far as to put my first skins back on and no punctures.

so what i would like to know are the gp4000s the same sort of puncture proof or better ??? i read that they have this new Chilli compound(sorry chilli pepper )hell i am using hubbers names alot todayEmbarrassed(weight is not and issue i just go to the loo before a race and that is sorted out)

what would be your choice (money is not a problem thanks Trev my chum  Thumbs%20Up)

baie dankie

many thanks

the best response can get "Mothers Milk Ola" cone on saturday from me at Nelsons Creek LOL

I changed two weeks ago from gator skins to gp4000s and have found the ride a lot smoother. well worth the effort. The chaps I ride with have been using them for two years now and no puntures .... good luck

Hagar if you looking for a decent puncture proof tyre look at the vittoria rubino pro tyres

but all in all i really have no clue about the GP 4000's other than they are expensive the gatorskins on the other hand i have never had problems with other than the fish net stocking on the side eventually becoming like a ball of string on my brake calipers

I got both, 4000s on my 'race' wheels and gatorskins on my 'training' wheels. Since i got them, both sets around Nov last year i have had a total of 4 punctures, 3 in the gatorskins, and one on the 4000s. Both have probably done similar milage, as im not really fussed about which wheels i ride with. (I race on my Boras that are fitted with Gatroskin tubbies!)

Honestly i cant say that the 4000s is a better tire just because it has has less punctures, it could have just been luck. But it certainly goes on to the rim easier than the wire beaded gatorskin, and is considerably lighter as well. The wear on the 4000s is also very good, showing very little signs of wear even after almost a year of use. If this was my ond 4000 tires, the tread would have been square and probably be in the bin already. Grip seems similar on both tires, as does cornering etc. But having said that no matter what tire you ride, hit a while line in the wet on a corner and you will slide.

I prefer the look of the 4000s, just because of the all black casing, and the fact that it has a kevlar bead. But for an all purpose tire that you can race and train on, the gatorskin cant be beat in terms of price.

GP4000S are the best and I've tried just about everything going. Thumbs%20Up

Punctures have a lot to do with luck and there are very few if any tyres that will prevent a puncture from a full frontal attack by an angry duiweltjie.Angry

The GP4000S roll better and corner better than the Gators and the Armadillos I use on my commute bike. They're way lighter and no tyre levers are required for fitting or removal.Thumbs%20UpThumbs%20Up

should your calipers be on the walls of the tires?, cause seriously i have been using my gators for over 5000kms and the still sweet.

Puncture proof, try Vitoria Zafiro's or gator skins

THey are heavy and bomb proof.  and cheaper

for good puncture resistant tyres for races try rubino's and GP4000.  THey are more expensive though.  You should however be able to get rubino's for under R300 and tyre.

Queens=R250 for old Rubino's

Karstens for about R280 for new Rubino's (shammyrash pls confirm)

Rubino's also come in colours other than black (even white sidewalls for the east randers)

I have done about 6000km on my GP4000s.

Two punctures.

If I have to guess, I would say they are about halfway through.  BUT they have a few cuts in them which might be a problem as time goes on.

The chillies are in my opinion the best on the market at the moment.

Sorry, I interpreted the "S" as plural and not model.

So yes, GP4000S is R450 and GP4000 is R350.  Smile
