Cornelis, it has been debated here quite often. Last time, not two months ago, we had ourselves a mini war over the issue. Just search.

Tip: CrankARM is superflous. A crank is an arm so saying Crankarm is like saying armarm. People will think you're nuts.

Thanks for the (non-)advise.

Tip: I can't really give a flying monkey what people think about me.

No malice intended. I just think the topic was so well covered that you'll find all the advice there.

I am working on a FAQ that should solve this problem.

Just use 172.5 cm cranks.

Muddy, that is the right answer, but you know, just like at the Ornamental Plaza, you cannot just pay and take the goods. You have to haggle first.  You've been here long enough to understand the dynamics of a simple question.

We first have to enter into a monster argument before 172.5 pops out the other end.

non taken at all!Smile

not really interested too wade through 60 post back and forth about everybody's theories on things.

If your short would you opt for a shorter lenght and vise verse, and would a 170 mm versus a 175mm arm make any differrence? except if you are a world class cyclist, which I most definitely is not!

You should know this will never happen. Along the line he'll get convinced to cut the cranks down to 150mm and retap it , then someone will tell him you dont really need cranks. And at the end of the day he'll give up cycling.

If you're not very tall...go with the 175's......extra torque.... 6'1 or taller...177.5 if you can get hold of them (180s if ur a giant)... Also keep in mind shorter arms mean....a higher cadence ....thatch my thoughts on the matter .... Track cycling is a different story.... 155-170s in general

Seeing that this topic has been touched on I want to ask my question:

Will it make a difference if I switch from 172.5 crank to 170?

Reason: Can get a good deal on 2008 Chorus groupset. Mine is pre- Ultra Torque cranks so a bit older...
